So i live down a dead end street, its a thin street on a hill and below another road, which makes it shaded. Anyway with the snow we are struggling, we cant get out at the bottom of the hill because its a dead end, the car is struggling to get out up the hill for obvious reasons, the grit in was filled once last month but not since and it only does about 1/5th of the top anyway.
A neibour dug two tracks out from his house which was great but now its turned into ice tracks where the snow has drifted onto them and frozen. So today what does it do? start to snow again. Im due on Sunday and starting to get worried, my dad dropped us off at ours last week in his 4x4 ranger and went back up the hill sideways, because its that bad (the shade from the other road makes it colder and no sun to melt anything) So im worried now even my dad wont be able to come get me if i go into labour.
I decided to call the council to ask for some grit of advice on what to do, they said there is an emergency team that i can call when i go into labour who will come clear the road. But i gave birth to Alice in under two hours and knowing my council they would take that to arrive, and a snow plow wont fit down my road so it would need doing by hand.
My dh is at work so cant shovel it and im not riskng it on the ice...

So does anyone else know any emergency service i could call to get me out? I dont even think a midwife would get to me in a car and if she did she wouldnt get back out!
I know it probably wont happen and ill be fine but we only just got out this morning and now its snowing again! x

What about contacting your local St John's ambulance or Red Cross? Or rallying friends together to clear the road? Anything is worth a try if you're worried! Xx

Thanks i will try contacting them for advice- im afraid we dont have any very close friends, not ones that will help shovel the ice anyway. The problem is even if we shovel it the snow is blowing back on/coming down and then freezing into ice because its in shade so we don't get any sun. Its really the ice thats the issue more than the snow because thats what we where skidding on today.
xx

The NHS ambulance service do have access to 4x4s I think,

Xx

really? I think im going to have to see if they do around here i would think so as there is a lot of countryside x

Eep, that's not a great situation hun x I would try and find out if there's any organisations close to you offering support in the weather. What area is it you live hun? X

We're not exactly in the middle of nowhere, but there are couple of Ambulance service Rapid Response 4x4s.

How far are you to the end of the road, is it possible to walk to the end? You could park the car there so u can get out easier?
Xxx

No not possible to walk to the end because of the ice, and it leads out onto a main road blind corner so i would need to walk well down the road for the ambulance to pull over, last time i couldnt even walk to the delivery suite from the car so dont think i could make it, we are like middle of the road so both ways is quite far.
We are not in the middle of nowhere i live in kirklees but up the road from us its country so maybe they have a 4x4 doctors car or something. I want to find out though just so i feel a bit better its given out for snow today through the night and tomorrow too. x

Have u rang the midwife to find out your options? After all this worrying the snow will prob have cleared by the time you have bubs!
Xxx

No i am hoping as my dad knows a few farmers one will come to the rescue with a 4x4 or tractor - didnt think of it before my dad mentioned it! x

Oh dear! I'd be so worried and like to know your options. Chances are there will be a 4x4 ambulance near by. I live in a town and we have one, I'm sure more rural areas will do. Maybe you should be really on the ball and even the slightest twinge or sign take it as baby is coming?xxx

Yeh i think im over worried and like to know what to do if i need to. Waiting now to see if anything is happening. x
