Ok so most of us older ones born in the 70s and 80s (before there were car seats or even seat belts in the back of cars) probably have survived against all the odds.

I felt really bad for bumping Bertie's head this morning....but ffs my mum and dad used to put my carrycot in the boot of a 3 wheeler, which aren't exactly famous for staying upright let alone being good in a crash! My OH used to sleep on the parcel shelf of the car!

I think most of us have a little horror story of what our parents did with us so lets all stop beating ourselves up about things! xxxxxxxxxx

I went from Hamilton to the isle of skye (i wasn't a baby though, maybe 5?) in the boot with the parcel shelf off with 2 other kids and 4 adults in the car lol x

tapatalking!!!

When I came home from the hospital I slept in my baby bath, covered with towels, as mum and dad couldn't afford a cot. Was driven in the car without any kind of seat, you name it. I'd be surprised if anything was done according to today's standards!

Oh yes, and one I'll never hear the end of. Apparently I used to eat my own poo :S

^lol

I went to the south of France in some kind of ford estate car, and because my brother and I argues sooooooo much and I got really bad car sickness, they put the luggage on the roof and me in the boot with a couple of duvets. Slept a lot that journey and just chilled laying down in the boot listening to Michael Jackson cassettes (whatever one had Liberian girl on it). It was awesome. My dad also constructed a wooden partition between the 2 back seats to separate the 2 of us on another holiday but that's a hole another story. Brother is still annoying.

Mum who never drinks, also used to drink Guinness before breastfeeding me.

I got a ride in the boot for fun once!

My mum didn't strap my brother in properly as a baby and he fell out of his car seat when she hit the breaks and was on the car floor!

I sat in the boot alot or rode on my mums lap in the front of the car.

my auntie still smoked through her pregnancy (27 years ago) and when my cousin was little one day she put her in the car seat behind her went off for a drive had a fag and chucked it out the window. Only to pull up bat my mums with my cousins coat smoldering where the fag had blown back in to the car.

I liked sitting in the boot but I most often sat in the middle at the back leaning over so I could watch my dads feet, I thought it was magical how people knew what to do with their feet while driving :D

These made me chuckle! I've been driven in the boot of the car in the south of France :D

I used to regularly travel in the boot of the car with the parcel shelf removed... Not such long distances, but I used to love it! It was so much fun! :-)

Great thread! My brother, dog and I always travelled in the back of my dad's orange van till he got a car!

Yes! My mum was actually given Guinness in hospital

Mum used to transport me in car in carrycot on back seat and one say took a roundabout a bit too fast.

Needless to say the carrycot with me in it ended up in the footwell!!!

on long journeys my parents lowered the back of the seats into the boot iykwim and we lay down, got covered in balnkets and they set off at night so we slept the whole way there, such a civilised way to travel!

:) my parents never had a car. But when I was little we all lived in one small ish room. My parents, my older sister and I. How???..

My mum told me when I was born they took me home in the car with her cradling me in the front seat - not very exciting.
As we got a little older I remember family/friends day out at the beach and literally 6 kids getting rammed into the back seat of the car and then feeling suffocated by the inflatable crocodiles etc that also had to travel

Trips to ikea were great. They'd fill the car up and my sister would generally get to keep her seat up as she got travel sick but I was put where ever there was space. Usually either behind the drivers seat and the back seat on the floor or squeezed in the front passenger footwell by my mums feet. Or of course there was the old metro we had that had no seat belts in the back and we lived right in the country so going down the country lanes our heads would be bouncing off the roof and we'd be bouncing all over the back :/

The amount of times I've been in the boot is rediculous. Can't really remember much else. Think it was mainly car things.

I got put down to sleep on my front as a baby. I got sugar & rusks added into my bottles, dummies dipped in sugar, beakers of coke or irn bru. that type of thing.

I was never allowed to sit in the boot, always wanted to.

xxxxxxxx
