What happens after the ov blood test?

Has anyone had a blood test for ovulation? I've got one on Monday. I didn't really want to ask the doc what it was looking for as he told me it was to see if I've ov'd, when I asked him the second time. I knew this as he'd told me once! This is the same doc who says that because DH is an identical twin and his bro has 3 kids his sperm will be fine!


Is that it? Or do they check progesterone (sp?) as well? Sorry if it's a silly question. If there is a problem what will happen next. It's all a bit scary this.

Hey hon, what day of your cycle was the test on? I had a progesterone test 7 days after ovulation. This will tell the doc if you ov'd by the level of progesterone in your system.

they test for a few things on first one , hormone levels , progesterone , think they even did calcium and stuff for me

then it will really depend on what they show , i had to have mine repeated eevery month , for a few months as i had dodgy hormone levels which resulted in them finding my dermoid .

more then likely if something is abnormal , they will repeat , they dont usually just use one month to diagnose as ur body is different every month !

Thanks for all your replies. Feeling a bit better about it all now. They are doin the test on day 21 of my cycle. He didn't really explain why. If it comes back normal does that mean I'm ok? Or do other tests follow? I really wish I'd asked him more until I got the answers I wanted.

The day 21 test is the progesterone test - they assume that you ovulate on day 14 and that your porgesterone levels if you have ovulated are at their highest 7 days later. My first one on day 21 came back too low, but I was charting and knew that i ovulated on about day 18/19 - so don't dispair if it comes back with a low score - you could be ovulating at a different time of the month. I got them to retest when I thought it was 7 days after ovulation and that was fine - I was actually pregnant!

How long was your cycle? I OV on day 19 and thus have a luteal phase of 9 days, just worried this isn't long enough for the egg to implant.

According to FF my OV date has moved so BD way too early. Looks like my LP won't be a problem this month.
