Ive been referered for a hystopingogram (sp?) and got my confirmation of referral yesterday. Anyway today I got another letter from them saying I need to make an appointment for some preliminary tests that need to be done well in advance.

Any ideas what these could be?

Ive had a scan that showed everything looking healthy, the 21 day progesterone test that showed im ovulating.

does anyone have experience of this and know what it means?

Desperate to know but cant phne them till tuesday now :wall:

cant help you hun, but hope it all goes ok.. here have a hug

I'm not really sure but might be for some blood tests/urine samples so that the results are back in time for the consultation?!?!?!

GGG this is what my fertility clinic has referred me for!! mines is on 22nd May!!!! Nothing to worry about... but u do know this is the final stage of fertility treatment?

The next step is IVF

Heres a wee descrip for you info

During a hysterosalpingogram, dye is injected throught the cervix into the uterus and fromthere into the fallopian tubes. If the tube is blocked, the tube would begin to swell up, much like a balloon inflating. This would be seen on the HSG and would be reported as a hydrosalpinx. But, understand that the only reason in this case that the tube is large and swollen is because dye has been injected into it. The best way to tell if the tube really is fluid filled on its own is to look at it by ultrasound. If, all by itself the tube appears to be fluid filled, then yes there may be some benefit to eithr removing it are tying it off near the uterus to prevent a back-spill of fluid. However, I hae seen plenty of successful cycles without having a tube tied off or removed.

I was told they are going to inject the dye and watch via ultra sound and x-ray. I would be released from hospital if everythign is okay afew hours afterwards, and i would need few days off work after it, as some people experience pain. Your advised to take some sort of pain relief beforehand eg paracetamols half hour before you go in.

I have loads of info on it that i got from fertility clinic.

Il get it all up on this post after my hair appointment

4 got 2 add i was told that if they found anythign, they would do Key hole straight after, i would be put under general anestetic and a small 1cm incision made under the belly button so they can put a camera down and find out exactly what is wrong.... this was only goign to happen if the dye showed up any abnormalities. I was told i may have an overnight stay in hospital if this happened.

oh also, its not sore it just feels like your going for a smeer test.

Honestly GGG its nothign to worry about hunni.

Very simple 15 minute procedure i was told. I get my results a month later.

thanks lianey some great info there and youve put my mind at ease about the procedure! My surgery is pants and told me none of this lol

I am wondering what these preliminary tests BEFORE the procedure are though?

You'll probably have yours before me so good luck and please let me know how you get on!

ggg im having mine done on thurs when i have my op , i think u need prem tests because its classed as a sort of operation. if its anything like mine , it will just be weight / bloods / blood pressure and to talk u through what happens . slightly different for me as im having surgery at same time , but im sure the tests are nothing to worry about !

thanks Gem thats what I thought but wasnt sure

Good luck on thursday, and its great to have you back!

nice to be back , altho the break from ttc n stuff was very much appreciated lol kinda had fun out right bedroom antics instead of bding lol

Hi GGG,
The preliminary tests they speak about are probably standard pre-op assessments.

You'll get your blood presure checked, height and weight, maybe an ECG, maybe some standard bloods to check your blood count and to make sure your white blood count is ok and not indicative of any infection (like the cold). Then they'll have a chat about any previous procedures you've had and any aneasthetics you've had and any problems or drug reactions you've had.

All perfectly normal!

xxx

I got my prelimierary tests at my appointment before it.

The preliminerary tests before the procedure are an internal..... Basically you get a probe put inside you like an internal ultra sound, they check your uterus, womb, ovaries and tubes..... But Mainly your ovaires, mines were an odd shape, but this is usual for people wiht irregular periods that jump between 26-35days and are exactly the same days each month.

They also do a health check on you, height, weight, diet, blood pressure etc... apparnatly I have to loose 4 kilos before i start IVF as am just slightly overweight for my height. But when i explained i go to the gym 4x a week she said that It was my muscle weighing me in at that weight and muscle weighs more than fat,.... so iv stopped the gym, and exchanged it for swimming 3 x a week which will keep me toned and hopefully shift off some weight.

I still havent had a chance to type up the stuff from that leaflet, monday is my destress evening, and after swimming il do it before i start my ironing for you

id need to loose so much for ivf i really hope i dont have to go that route

4kg thats what they told me id have to loose. My sis is a fitness instructor she said that you could loose half a stone in a week if you were 100% dedicated.

Which means the maximum weight for IVF in aberdeen is 10 1/2 stone

id need to loose nearly 6stone then  unless it varies by height ? im nto short im 5ft 6 but still well overweight , face hides it cos im not big there hehe and i didnt gain a pound in florida :cheer:

oh god id probably have to lose a bit of weight then too lol, im 5ft 11 so I carry it well, I havnt weighed myself in years but when I was slimmer I was about 10.5 stone, im probably about 13 now

Thanks for all the info girls its really helped, and lainey luv ya, you dont need to go to the trouble of typing out a leaflet for me, I hugely appreciate the thought but I'll just do a bit of research on the net and im sure I'll get all the info

I cant believe that we're really at the stage of IVF being a possibility, I dont mind really we'd love twins!!

just thought, should i tell them about the chemical pregnancy I had last month? would it make a difference to my "fertility status" and hinder any chance of help getting pregnant? Oh god that brings up a bit of a moral dilemma for me doesnt it..........

id prob leave it ggg , and get all the help our loverly nhs will offer , id hate them to count it and then u have to wait another 12 months to get help

i AGREE WITH gEM... JUST KEEP IT TO YOURSELF CHUCK
