Hi everyone, hope you're all ok! Just an odd period question. I've always had a long cycle, around 34-36 days. Never been any different. However in May my cycle went to 45 days!!! Then since then it's been between 24-29 days! What's going on? I'm 43 so I'm worried I might be heading for the change! Been trying for baby number two for two years and still no joy. Hubby works away so timing isn't always great. There have been times though that I've been convinced it's the right time but still nothing! Could it be something to do with my periods going crazy? TIA x

The time before menopause the cycles can get shorter. Doesn't mean you are about to hit menopause though. I'm nearly 42 and am having 24-25 day cycles. The good news is that research shows that women our age might actually be more fertile than younger women as there is more chance of us dropping more than one egg per cycle. Also maybe the shorter cycles are our bodies way of giving us more of a chance.

Unless it drops below 21 days you are fine.

Hiya im 42 and got my bfp on 31/7...im now 10 weeks tom. Hadnt been ttc for a while as have a 12 and 10 yr old so was a lovely surprise when we returned from holiday. Since age of 40 my period cycles have been getting shorter....between 23-26 days and also have night swears before af due. I was told this could be perimenopausal symptoms, which you can get for several years before menopause. We ttc last year for 6 months and then gave up. I think being more relaxed helped. As we werent ttc i was drinking wine everynight and lots of espressos as we were in italy! GP told me it would be ok as neural tube hadnt begun to form then.

More women are conceiving in their 40s so dont give up hope. Try and take a more relaxed approach if you can....although easier said than done! Good luck x

Congrats Melly that's brilliant! I get night sweats before AF...didn't realise it was perimenopausal symptom! That's depressing.

Mackmummy, if your cycles are different lengths you might be ovulating at a different time than you think. Also I recently found out that women in their 40s often ovulate before the LH surge shows on an opk. I've just started using Clear Blue Advanced 4 days opks, and I got a high fertility reading 2 days before my normal cheap opk said I was fertile.
