What do you think of when you hear Peter?

I love it because it's my grandfathers name. But also to me it's very Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Peter was the oldest boy in all the CS Lewis Narnia books, and I see him as young, strong, holding a sword high as he's crowned High King of Cair Paravel.

My husband says it would end up being 'Pete'. Which was the name of the local dealer when he was at Uni. So a skanky druggy with long hair.
Or he says it reminds him of Petey the 'special' boy in American Pie.

What do you hear?

I think 'pan' (as in Peter Pan not just a random kitchen utensil) tbh but I'd be ok with that as I loved that story as a child.

I don't know anyone called Pete or Peter and think of it as a fairly classic name - I like it x x x

I think of my dad he's called peter, pete for short! But he sure is nothing like peter pan.... Or a long haired skanky drug dealer for that matter he's just... Dad lol x

Peter doesn't need to be shortened for convenience like some names do, so i'm sure if he always introduces himself as Peter then that is what people will call him.

I like the name :)

Honestly... I think of this horrible greasy boy I went to school with! But then again hun if you love it go for it! Not everyone is going to like the name you choose regardless x

lol my bf hubby called pete and it just makes me think of the rhym pete pete short and sweet his head is 2ft from his feet yes he is a bit short lol

I see like you do a classic name from Lion Witch and wardobe!
I had Peta or Petra on my girls shortlist , as OH and I agreed on this moreor less, I wanted Peta and he Petra - the prob was my surname Jones, ther is already a famous Peter Jones!

Whats your last name ,will it go?

love it

Last name is Wilkinson, quite difficult to match to names I find. It has to be a name that ends in vowel or a Y or an R, if you know what i mean. An open sound rather than a closed sound. None of the names ending in L, M, or N really work.

I don't know if this helps, but I've been a teacher for 15 years in an inner city comp, and have never taught a naughty Peter! They're all nice! X

I think I'm jealous!! I love the name Peter!! (But we have a close friend called Peter...!)

I think whatever name you choose, someone will always say, oh that reminds me of blah, or I knew a horrid boy at school called blah. If you like it, go for it, esp Peter :)

well, i didn't think of anything until I read all your posts! so based on the initial question of what do you think when you hear Peter - to me I struggled to think! Don't know if that helps? Plus - I like the name too :) xx

It makes me think of my dad and one of the fellas from work - funnily enough both who are called Peter
I like it and would consider it as a name for a boy but don't think o/h would agree

I am another one who thinks of my dad as thats his name, Pete for short :)

i didnt think of anyone either, but i dont know any peters, i like it :)

we were trying to also pick names that we didnt associate with people we knew, i think thats why we have Oliver or Riley, Layla or Paige,

go with what your gut says hun

xxx

Hmmmm Im on the fence! Its not a horrid name but to me its associated with an older persons name as all the Peters ive know Ive only known as older people and not children!

But like the others have said if you like it go for it....xx

Yes, it doesnt matter now, my DH has completely veto'ed it from the list! He still wants Bert and I can't shift him!

Really? You dont think it sounds like a smelly old man? (i think i got that from Adrian Mole, but i'm not sure).

But i have to admit that Bertie for a boy is nice, but just like Peter, it isnt as nice when shortened. I think you need a name that works well both long and short.

Indeed I do! And no dont think it sounds like smelly old man at all lol! But yeah I know what you mean about a name that sounds nice in full and shortened! But no Bertie/Bert def gets the tumbs up! xx
