set my alarm and got up and out of the house by 06:35 this morning to go to the walk-in centre for my gestational diabetes test, after fasting all night and not being able to have my wake up cuppa tea...

Got there before it even opened and there was already 7 people in front of me in the queue! Anyway - the midwife and all the leaflets i read say that you have one blood test, then drink a glucose drink - then go back 2 hours later for the 2nd blood test to compare.

Well, she did the first bloods and said - "that's you done, thanks goodbye"... so i said "oh i thought i had to drink a drink and then come back in 2 hours?" so the nurse says "well yes that's what i think most pregnant ladies have but your form has the other box ticked just for "fasting glucose" so i can't do the other test.

So i showed her the leaflet and my notes where the midwife has written GTT glucose tolerence testing etc and she still said "no - sorry the wrong box is ticked on the form so i can't do it"

So i asked her if i could just drink the drink and then go and get another form off my midwife before coming back 2 hours later... "no, sorry you've already had the blood taken so unless you can get another form here within 10 mintes you'll have to have it done again another day" ggggrrrrrrr...

So by now it's about 7:30am and I tried to get hold of my midwife but it was answerphone. So then i tried the labour ward which is luckily round the corner from the walk in centre and the midwife there was really helpful... had to hotfoot it round to delivery ward, get ANOTHER form and then go back!

all the time not being able to drink or eat anything!!! went back at 9:30am for the 2nd blood test so at least it's all done now! I'm now just left with a bruise on each elbow where she wasn't particulaly good at taking blood! oh well, wait and see what the results are now!!!!

How frustrating! Midwives seem to be in such a hurry these days, my midwife ticked the box to say I was a male for my booking in bloods! I can't imagine she EVER has to tick that box lol!

lol! that's funny!

i know - they must have ticked the box wrong at my 12 week scan when they gave me the form... just glad i noticed - at least it's done now!

What a pest!!!!

Bet you were really hungry and thirsty after all that!

x

How bloody inconvenient! I had this test done and it was all straightforward. I'm even surprised you have to wait for your results as I got mine instantly as they just put a little blood sample into a machine and it gives a sugar reading, just like what diabetics do umpteen times a day. Get your feet up for the rest of the day and chill out, use it asxan excuse to be pampered!! :)

pinkymum - yes i was staaaarvin - was really naughty and went straight to mc'donalds for a sausage and egg mcmuffin and latte!!

loulabelle - yours sounds really straightforward... did you have to drink the syrupy drink and wait 2 hours? i've got to wait 3 days for the results...

i said to the nurse "WHO will the results go to - my dr or midwife?"

and without even looking up she just said "oh about 3 days?"

not even listening to what i said!! oh well i'm sure they'll let me know if there's anything out of the ordinary!
