Week 10 - Sharp Twinges?

Hey all.

This week I've been experiencing what feel like sharp muscular twinges around my groin and stomach.

I've had dull period type pains since 4 DPO, but these are coming and going every hour or so, it's like a tight sharp pain either in the creases of my thighs, near an ovary or above my belly button.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's things starting to 'expand' and grow in the belly region properly, so I'm just curious if anyone else has or has had this. 10 weeks seems a little early for such growing pains but who knows.

Thanks :)

Sounds like round ligament pain. If you've already had a baby it can start pretty early. I had those pains around 10 weeks too. Don't worry too much :)

I've had them too! Midwife said it is growing pains.

Thank you both.
I saw my midwife today, she said a lot of women say they get them but that she couldn't tell me why :S

The progesterone that you need to support the pregnancy also acts on suppleness. The hormone relaxin is needed to support the growing uterus. These hormones aren’t isolated to the reproductive area so they affect other areas too, so your ligaments are more flexible and over stretch, causing discomfort. Also why heart burn is bad as your digestive sphincter is more flexible. I can’t believe she didn’t know that!

Thanks a lot. Her words were

"Yeah... Lots of women report pains and things but we can't really explain why, you haven't been bleeding have you?"

I was shocked too especially since I read up on ligament pain. I just wanted her to hear her say what it was.

That was probably her easy way out of having to actually think and reassure you

Thank god for this forum and google ai.

Yeah I was kinda disheartened tbh.
It was like DD, until you're in the second trimester their approach is 'meh' towards you.

Sparky I've been having the same.

Our midwives don't even want to know until we're 20weeks except for booking in appt and if we have problems we have to phone the go first

Ah I am so glad I saw this as I am exactly the same. I'm 10 weeks 3 days today and have had period type pains at the bottom of my tummy and round my back on/off for the last 2 days. They aren't horrendous pains and come/go but it has made me worry a bit. I was unsure whether to call midwife as my booking in appt wasn't with my actual midwife but from your experiences it sounds like it'll be pointless if they aren't helping too much anyway. Hope you are all okay!

Thanks Princess! I'll have to bug you with all of my concerns :)

KD they have eased off loads now (10+5) so I hope that makes you feel better!

Summer so bad isn't it? I remember feeling like 'oh, I'm sorry I bothered you and asked you, a midwife, a question about pregnancy...' then they have all the posters all over the wall saying 'if in doubt ask your midwife'.

First trimester doesn't mean anything to them. I mentioned I'd had a scan at 8 weeks and she looked at me as if to say 'well what was the point in that?'.

It's one of the reasons I bought a doppler, I know there's a lot of hate towards them but it certainly brought me more comfort than the midwives did through the first tri. Still haven't found this baby with it though, little monkey is hiding!

When do they say you can usually pick up the heartbeat with a home Doppler?

I don't know what the official is but I have a video of DD's at 7+4.
I was skinnier back then though. She was right down low near the crease of my thigh near my pubic bone. This baby eludes me!
