Just thought Id start a thread about this as to be honest I haven't a clue about what sort of foods to introduce to Ruby. Ive tried the baby rice, she hates it, Ive tried the mushed up carrot, she hates it and today I tried the banana and she kept her mouth shut.

Anyone have any good recipes I could try?

I also thought this would be a great thread to share each others recipes.

I know this sounds stupid but how do you cook everything????

I have a microwave steamer which is quick and easy and less dishes, I just put water in the steamer, peel and chop the veggies and steam them until they are really soft.

Then I put the veggies in a blender with a bit of water to make it smoother and runnier, then freeze the pureed veggies in ice cubes!

Im using a smoothie maker at the moment but need a proper blender, I tried using a baby food mill but cant work it!

I prefer making my own veggies I feel much better giving her home-made rather than tins but have nothing against tins, I use them if im out or in a rush.

Its good becuase you can makea load up in one go and it lasts for a while and doesnt take long to make a batch up.

hope this helps

Hi

I boil Isaac's veg then puree it with a hand blender I bought from tesco. £5 it was! bargain ;)

The only thing I had to roast was butter nut squash.

Lou :)

lou was it recently you got it from tescos? can you add water when using the hand blender?

Hi

Yeah i got it from tesco's the other day from their value range. I got to the checkout then remembered I needed it so one of the checkout girls ran and got it for me and she said it was a fiver. I never checked the receipt so it may have been £5 something. I'm not sure.

As for the water I'm sure you could add it as long as you use a deep dish and don't lift out the blender too much while its still blending! I splattered myself the first couple of times I used it.

Lou :)

It's always a good idea to use the water you boiled the veg in, to puree it with as it's full of goodness. The same with steamed veggies - scoop some of the water from the bottom before blending.

I simmer my veggies in very little water and then I blend the lot. I mouli the veg and add the water afterwards.

This was copied from one of my earlier posts...
Why not try some veggies that are naturally sweet. I cooked some butternut squash and pears (all in one pot) for Oscar today ... he couldn't get enough and neither could I!!! It's deliciously sweet.

I find potato a tricky veg to start with. I never get it sloppy enough and the taste is too bland for me. It's a veg that NEEDS butter and salt. Great combo's I've made are:

Butternut Squash and Pear - I boil the squash and 5 mins before it's cooked, I add the pear.

Apple and Banana - Both stewed together with some fresh orange juice - no water required. Yummmmmm

Pear and Youngberries - Stewed and strained through sieve to remove seeds

Avocado and Banana - fresh

Carrot and Potato - more carrot than potato

Baked Sweet Potato and Apple

Fresh Papaya - Oscars favourie!!!

Courgette and Carrot

have you tried mixing some mashed banana into the baby rice? maybe the rice is too bland but the banana is too strong on its own? alex was fine with baby rice but didnt exactly yum it up. then i added banana and he loved it.

the other things that are fab are the organix fruit puree pots. till your lo gets a taste for food they are fab to mix with baby rice for a little flavour.
they do loads of flavours. i make all alexs savoury stuff and some fruit stuff but as i'm working again now i tend to give him one of these for pud as i havent as much time to do loads of fruit as well.

once they have a taste for food then you can go mad with your blender! alex never turns his nose up at anything and i cant shovel the grub in fast enough now!

good luck

i buy boxed food for kacy as well as making my own, kacy loves cauliflower and brolici with a table spoon of pataotoe she loved it.

apple and pear.

or why not try adding a little bits of other food to jared food.

Or if you do want to try paoatoe why not had some cheese to it, from 6 months, (hv said that would be alright a little bit of cheese every so often)

BTW when can you give babies eggs????
