Hi ladies

I'm just wondering when bf babies can start drinking water? She's been ebf and I was under the impression she shouldn't have water until a year (not sure where I've got that idea from mind), she's 5 months and we've started on purées. I saw my health visitor last week who said don't forget to give her an oz or two of water with her food to which got me thinking that maybe she was confused and thought I formula fed?

I just really wanted to clarify that it's ok to give her water. She's only have a couple of teaspoons of food twice a day and is still having all her normal milk feeds

Water is fine. It needs to be boiled and cooled until she gets to 6 months old, then you can give water straight from the tap.

Give from a cup
Its just good generally for motor skills etc x

It's absolutely fine to give them water from birth. Just make sure it's boiled and cooled. They don't necessarily need it if efb, but it won't do your baby any harm. If you're introducing food now it makes sense to introduce different fluids now too.

Fab thanks everyone :) she'd still getting used to the purées so I might wait until next week before I introduce water
