Been looking into water births more recently, which is weird because It's never entered my head before, I just went with the whole hospital bed delivery option.
Anyways, has anyone on here actually had a water birth? I'm thinking of choosing this option if I can, but I know how limiting the birthing pools can be in hospitals? If I set my heart on a water birth in a hospital, would I probably end up being disappointed?
I need people who've been through it to explain it to me  pretty please

I would really like a water birth but they only have one tub in my hospital so it's first come first served - I shall be banging on the door telling whoever is in there to hurry up!! lol. They have a couple of good water birth videos on Youtube which make it all look very calm and chilled!

I'm definitely getting one if I can. I've been reading about it a lot and no one seems to offer any negatives.

I can't offer much advice as this is my 1st baby but i too want a water birth. There's only 2 in my hospital so again it will be first come first served. I have pretty much got my heart set on it but i also know that it's not a definite and am kind of expecting to be disappointed! xxx

I want a water birth as it's more natural for baby and it gets a clean! Lol! DH is worried about water birth so got it on my list to talk to midwife about when we see her next Monday. Need her to talk him round!!

I asked the same question a week or so ago in birth and Labour if you can still find it then a few people who had experiance of then gave me there opions. I really really want one loll x

Maybe take your own pool if that's allowed?? xx

you can get blow up pools to hire or buy. The maternity unit im hoping to go to has a plumbed in pool, but also has a couple of the blow up one incase they have more than one person in wanting to use the pool. - i woulda thought hospitals would have had a couple of blow up ones as extras as well.

the info we got at matty unit on thursday was the 92% of their births last year only used water with gas and air for pain relief, but 92% of births in the hospital had further pain relief such as morphine - she said that the warm water is a natural pain killer.

xxx

This was my plan too but now im starting to freak out and lean twords drugs lol

Dying to read some past stories for water births to get me back on the right track lol

My locat hosp only has the one too so if theres someone in it il be askin them to budge over haha

I started with a birthing pool with my daughter (she got stuck because of her size so had to have a ventouse at the end!) and honestly I felt barely any pain. It was so relaxing just floating there. I could see my tummy tightening with every contraction but it didn't feel anything like as painful as i thought it would.

The only thing I found difficult was getting comfortable! I instinctively wanted to be on all fours and that was awkward because I kept getting my face in the water!

I'd definitely go for it!

Oh, I should also say I did it all without a sniff of pain relief. A reason in itself to go for a water birth!

I cant offer any advic eas this is my first but Im really getting into the idea of a water birth. My hospital have just opened a new MW led birth centre with 5 rooms: only 2 have pools but the other 3 rooms have large bath tubs which the MW on the tour told us you can use to birth in as well. So Im really hoping I can cope with the pain and have the baby there :)
