Hi girlies,

I was just wondering how many of you are planning on having a waterbirth or have thought about it. Its something I have been wondering about for a while and now OH has decided that he really likes the idea of it too. I was wondering what you all thought. and if you had one did you find it beneficial to pain relief and relaxing?

xxx

I would really love a water birth too. I hadnt mentioned it to hospital as i didnt think they had a pool only to find out 3 weeks ago they have had for 7 years!! I jumped up and down and was well excited cos thats what i would love but been told cos i have high blood pressure the chances of me using it are virtually nil, im gutted :( :( xxx

I was thinking aboiut a water birth, but you couldn't get an epidural if you are going down that road could you?

no vicki hun you cant, have to be total normal unmedicated birth to be able to use the pool with no complications, i cant see what high bp has to do with not using the pool though, cos you would of thought with it being good pain relief and making you more relaxed that it would calm you and make your bp lower, dont make sense to me  Im still gutted :( xx

ud think the stress of an epidudal would be worse than a water birth

Ah well i am defo ruling out a water birth then!!

I'm a big shitbag when it comes to pain!

You can still use gas and air hun,you could always start off and see how you get on :D xx

yeah you could try using gas and air to see how you get on first how you the water relaxes you so it shouldnt hurt so much apparently!!Also wouldnt relaxing lower your blood pressure???

Ive got a tens machine, do you think i could use that before then when im ready to get in the pool i could use gas and air. obviously not the tens in the pool!!!

xx

My sister had high bp with her first and was told she couldn't have a water birth because the baby would need to be monitered constantly - so she couldn't go in the pool with wires & stuff attached to her.

She did manage to get a water birth with her second though & said it was fantastic (even with a 9lb 5 baby!). Much easier than 1st time round (although I guess second labour will always be easier?).

I think I might go for it with my baby, but am hoping to have it at home so would have to hire a pool and they're quite pricey!

Hope that helps.

thanks its definately something im thinking about. I just worry as the only place I can have one is at the birthing centre and obviously if anything goes wrong then Id have to be transferred to the hospital by ambulance its silly to worry about but I do!!

xx

Hi, I had a waterbirth with my first and it was wonderful. You're only allowed to have gas and air but that was enough. It was so relaxing and warm. I wanted one with my dd but there wasn't a midwife there qualified to do it so I couldn't have one. I'm due in 8 days and I've opted for a waterbirth again - I just hope I can have one.

Hmmmmmmmm

Water or Drugs

Water or Drugs

Water or Drugs

Fook it...................

GIVE ME THE DRUGS :rotfl:

I'm hoping to have a water birth this time. My first was born by induced labour and I was desperate for an epidural by the first contraction! It didn't really work though, and they let the meds wear off so I would know when to push. Basically birthing hurts. I think it helps more to be prepared than to rely on drugs. I was only 19 when I had my first with zero instructions and no antenatal class. This time I am preparing everything and hope to control the pain myself.

I discussed the prospect of a water birth with my midwife yesterday and she said there was no reason why I couldn't have one :cheer:

The only thing that doesn't appeal is sharing the birthing pool with bits of my poo :puke: I'm not sure if hubby would want to fish it out with a sieve!

Hmmm what to do....

Xxx

I am really really interested in a water birth, still not 100% if I want to actually deliver in the water though

The midwife will discreetly fish it out hun if it happens, they won't let you give birth with lumps of poo floating about  xx

I going to book an appointment to look round the birthing centre so I can see the pool and ask any questions. im starting to want a water birth more and more now.

They say it relaxes you and the more relaxed you are the less painful it is. and if I can go without an epidural im going to try anything!! Dont like the idea of that massive needle.....

xx

I was worried about bathing in poo too  but the birthing pool is a huge bath for two adults, at the hospital where I'm delivering. The midwife does indeed fish out any poo, plus they refresh the water, as its a big tub with a shower hose as well.
