Warning re tt perfect prep

I agree JD. The publish findings are quite certain that it's harmless carbon from the tubing which ofcourse we don't want babies ingesting anything other than the milk but like you say any thing that passes and holds water runs the risk of debris or growth.

They even say that cleaning with just water and vinegar won't remove dulling from tubes only if it's cleaned which wasn't previously instructed to do only when you first use they tell you use food grade vinegar which is what we did.

I think the sippy cups they had were awful because it was only on cutting you could see the mould because there was no access to clean it.

The same things go with dishwashers they need to be put through a regular rinse aid cycle to sterilise so it works efficiently.

We got the milton tab and solution today so I'm quite confident mine will be sterile lol. xxx

I know with them cups I seen t at some point but it took forever before that happened, it's not like it happens within weeks of use but more like months.. I kind of replaced the tops quite frequently anyway.. I think you get get small straw cleaning things for small holes like them I always found it's just easier to buy a new one at the Aldi baby events haha. My sister in law has a straw cup and she's got a cleaning tool for it, like something that would be used for like the dr browns blue thing in the bottle to clean it xx

Yes I do this exact thing. My LO had TT bottles then Dr Brown before settling on mam so we have the accessories for cleaning my older boys straws works a treat esp as he often has milk which is known to stick there.

I don't use straw cups for that reason they make me gip. If I'd spent the money on one then I'd follow their instructions and like you say they would be fine. I just think because o haven't bought one yet I'll give them a miss, or wait to see what happens... I mean I don't trust the company I'd rather wait for 3rd party go ahead. Xx

And people are entitled to prefer or dislike brands. I just wanted to shed light and share what had actually been said by the company and not scared mothers.

I got mine on sale. I wouldn't pay full price for a coffee machine as it's basically what it is only just the shots for water. I did use a kettle with my first but he was non dairy allergy and required boiled water. Whilst the findings were being investigated I boiled a litre of water put it in fridge and used an oz or two boiled from kettle then topped with cooled boiled. It's the same. So people would get by fine doing old school mode.

I wonder if people have the same reaction to all coffee machines top, don't drink out of them, there vile etc. I can bet if you opened up the back of coffee machines people would see much the same. :)

You're prob right about the coffee machines RM. If I had opened the packaging of the perfect prep and set it up, I prob would have used it and just been extra on the cleaning and checking front. The majority are likely fine anyway. I am sure they would have all been recalled otherwise xx

I personally like Tommy tippie I had their bottles, sterilisers and bottle warmers I just don't trust any company really. Look at all those fires with the tumble dryers and the company are saying they are fine to use as long as you watch them! That's worse than a bit of mold I don't know how they get away with it.
Your right about them being a coffee machine I wonder if they are similar inside with the tubes? Might be worth someone checking that out.
I just think I'll wait and see it's ages until i need one anyway. I don't think mothers should be scared of use it if I owned one but I don't want to invest money until given the all clear.

There was no mould found as far as I was aware it was debris from the tubing. Carbon specifically. If there was any bateria in the water it would have come from cross contamination as they still remain confident that it doesn't harbour or let in bacteria.

I don't know if they are all structured the same but it's the same idea. Press a button it let's in hot press a button it let's in something else. I'm not a hot drinker but we don't get to see those machines how often they are cleaned. Obviously regulations say regularly but we don't get to see the back of insides of the machines.

TT are alright. I just use a mixture. Depends what works best for whatever the product.

The photos I've seen looked like mold on the inside of the tubes, but I'm no mold expert.

Me either that is why is expect a brand selling machines to assist with infant feeding cannot be seen to be lying.

According to them if it was bacteria been led into the tubes (causing mould) then this would be due to cross contamination coupled with not fully cleaning. Or apparently the non TT filters don't have an anti bacterial filter. Which is why they reinvestigated as some parent only used the official filters.

Tbf I'm glad it's settled down now that they have came forward with atleast some explanation as at first it was brushed off as not cleaned properly or not using the correct filter so I'm glad they have did a full investigation and non were needed to be recalled. I think they actually investigated the parents who had experienced the dirty tubes.

Im gonna still check mine obviously because doesn't matter what it is. You wouldn't feed a baby with a dirty bottle or cup so likewise I'd want the machine responsible for part of his feeding to be ship shape if mine did come to be dirty then I'd stop using it given that I am doing more than what is recommended...

Only time will tell. Luckily my wee one hasn't had any issues that I can link to the machine. I just hope nothing else too serious happens to anyone else's LO either.

Exactly it's all about attention and checking like you would with any other machine, I'm glad parents know now because at least they can be more vigilant.
I wonder if it's something to do with the tubes being sealed, I'm trying to work out how it would happen. I wonder if it's when parents use them occasionally so the water is then in the pipes stagnant, or if it's debris it could be that when they are rinced through at the factory someone hasn't done the odd machine enough. It could be human error. I know the company wouldn't want debris coming off and blocking the pipes so I assume like with boilers they are tested and 'rinced' out. It could be down to the odd worker who hasn't thoroughly cleaned it. That way 90% of the machines would be in perfect order and only the odd batch would have issues.

I'm just rambling i just get curious about this as a plumber lol xxx
