So... I came off the depo injection after years on it and it took 9 months for my cycles to return... we weren't TTC then, so it didn't matter so much.

Husband now really wants to start trying in the new year... or even earlier. But I went back on depo a few months ago, I've had two shots of it... due my next one at the end of October. I was feeling pretty positive thinking as I'd been on it years before, hopefully it wouldn't take 9 months again, or worse longer. But after doing some online research, apparently the time on depo has no effect of how long it takes to come out of your system and it can take 18 months even after one shot.

Aghhh :wall2: so looks like I'll be here a while instead of a few months

Hopefully itll be less than 9 months

I was told i couldny take it long as it apparently thins your bones of on for a prolonged period??

Yeah that's one of the reasons I came off it in the first place, as I had low vit D. The doctors weren't concerned about me going back on though.

I went on the pill for a while, but that made me depressed. It was quite scary. So we came off completely for a while and just used condoms, we were going to start trying in August but decided to hold off for a while for different reasons.

I suppose if it does take the 9 months again, at least we'll be able to make sure we're ready. But; well we all know what it's like once we want to start trying.

After this it looks like we'll have to just stick with condoms

It took me about 10/11 months
My period came back xmas eve
I was queen bitch lol. Really really moody!!
I tried the implant too. I bled daily with that. Tried the pill... Im useless at remembering
I just gave up on contraceptives they just buggered with my body x

I just hope I haven't made a big mistake going back on it for 2 shots :/

It's scary reading the stories online of how long it has taken people

Gives me time to lose some weight I suppose.

Do you think it would be worth buying some ovulation sticks? Or would that just drive me mental?

I've also read extra iron can help, so I might start taking my TTC tablets now... which I suppose I would be doing anyway if we were going to start trying in the new year

Id wait on your period
Id say in theory it should be less time to leave your system x

Well, we've (oh) has decided to just not worry about it until it happens. Not try (as such as I won't be ovulating) but not prevent it either.

I said about waiting for my period, so we can work dates out and also wait until the new year as that was when we'd thought about starting, but he thinks we should not worry about it... he says if we catch on before the new year although its earlier than planned its better then waiting months and months and if it does take 9 months for the depo to come out of my system.... then it'll take 9 months to still not worry.

Kinda in a weird position lol as not due my next one until the last week in October so seems a bit like I'm worrying ahead anyway

I'd say best bet is just not think about it and have fun. Xx

I suppose, concentrate on having fun.

It's hard though once I get it in my head I can't help it. I think it's the not knowing as well, if I'd stayed off I'd be able to control when we started trying at least (I know there's no guarantee of when I'd get pregnant) but at least that would give me something to focus on.

So don't wanna get my hopes up as it's still early days (two months off the depo) buuuuut when I went to the toilet earlier I had fresh bloood spotting... Following creamy CM yesterday.
Will have to wait and see if it's the start of AF or just my body playing up. Fingers crossed though

hello :) same reason I'm here! I've had 2 shots.. third was due in october still waiting for my cycles to return... hopefully its a short stay for us all x ( I was on the depo in 2009 and when we decided to ttc my eldest it took around 6months for my cycles to return to normal and then fell 2months later I was on the repo for 18months prior to stopping) xx

Oooo it will be nice if its a short stay and similar for both of us, as we both had two shots finishing at the same time.
I keep getting cramps but think it's probably more Christmas food as opposed to something about to happen. I'm very confident something will happen this year though, worse case if it takes you 6 months like before and me 9 months like before.... we'll still both have our periods by summer

Right so I've been a bit sad today and done some working out. Due to commitments at Christmas, this year we wouldn't want to be due in Dec or Jan.... so I have 8 weeks to have a period and have a chance of having a 2016 baby. After that 8 weeks; we'll use protection for another 8 weeks.

Will have to wait and see what happens. But I can see me not having a period at all in that 16 weeks still. I suppose knowing we'd be waiting for the second 8 weeks might make that a little easier. After that I will have been off the depo for 6 months; so fingers crossed I won't be waiting much longer.

Really hope it happens in the next few weeks though. I hate the not knowing.
