Hi

I have been taking vitamin suplements and multi vitamins whilst trying to get pregnant and I am now 5 weeks pregnant, but have seen alot about Vitamin A excessive intake which can harm the foetus and after checking my vitamins they have approx 1600 ug of Vitamin A

Does anyone have experience of this and are there any tests which I can take to check for these Vitamin A abnormalities?

Many thanks
Suzanne

Oh a Happy and Healthy New Year

Are you taking vitamins specificly for pregnany? eg; pregnacare etc

If you are then there shouldn't be a problem, they are made to be within the requirements and have the safe amounts.

Though unless you have a poor diet or not eating much then you don't really need them.

If they are not ones made for pregnancy I would talk to your your doc/midwife, and in the meantime remain from using them.

Hi

Thanks for the reply, no they are off the shelf vitamins, Tesco and Seven Seas. I read an article on the internet from this doctor who recommended certain vitamins to help conceive, I shall have to go back and see if I can find it again. I have stopped taking them as soon as I read the article.

I will contact my doctor tomorrow and see what they say, if I have to have any tests etc.

Best regards
Suzanne

I managed to find an article similar

Complete Spectrum of Vitamins and Minerals
Other important prenatal vitamins and minerals include: Vitamins A, B6, B12, C, D and E, calcium, iron, zinc, niacin, riboflavin and thiamine. Iron is vital as it facilitates the distribution of oxygen through the bloodstream—essential for both the growing baby and the mother.

Vitamin A is also particularly important for both mother and baby; it not only helps the growth of healthy skin, eyes and mucous membranes, but it helps fight infection. For the mother, it contributes to a healthy reproductive cycle and replaces Vitamin A lost during breastfeeding. Calcium is an essential ingredient for the healthy development of teeth and bones as well as helping blood to clot.
