Connie has been off colour since Monday morning. She didn't eat anything all day except 4oz of milk in the morning, and her head kept collapsing on my shoulder or while she was playing at playgroup etc (she's not that kind of baby, she's either alert or asleep, nowhere inbetween).

That night she vomited her entire tea all over the living room floor. She slept but had a very disturbed night and was grumbling / crying out a lot. Today she's thrown up every feed and what keeps happening is she's hungry, she eats about 3-4oz of milk, seems fine for a little while, then she must be getting stomach cramps or something because she screams out and arches her back (like the old days with the reflux) and then the WHOLE LOT comes back up.

On top of this, she's extremely lethargic, can't keep her eyes open and can't hold her head up on her neck. She has taken probably 1oz of water all day (and 1oz of my orange cordial) and her nappy wasn't wet when I checked it at 3pm (put it on at 8am) but was at 6pm - barely noticeable though. She's clearly dehydrated, but she's not taking much water.

Oh and she doesn't have a temperature, it's a nice healthy 36.9°C.

The questions I have are:

1. Does this sound like Norovirus or similar?
2. Shall I just wait for it to go away of its own accord?
3. Should I set my alarm and wake her in the night to force feed her more water?
4. She has a doctor's appointment tomorrow for her ongoing chesty cough of doom - is this early enough for us to talk to a doctor (won't be me, I'm at work) or should I ring NHS Direct now? It seems a waste of time as I have the appointment but I'm worried about her.

What are your thoughts? Fankoo in advance for helpingtons

Poor Connie
She sounds one hell of a poorly bab :(

I would give NHS a quick call just to see what they say, they may think it best she shes someone sooner.

Cant comment on the norovirus as i am unsure without looking the symptoms up.

I think the most important thing to do is to keep her hydrated as much as you can as babies can become dehydrated so quickly.

Hope she gets better soon, keep us updated

abigail had this last week for 5 days! it was horrible. exactly the same as u have described i had her to 3 doctors and they FINALY gave me some medicine on day 4 coz they dont like to give it to babies but they sed it was the norovirus.
poor connie, hun i wud demand sumthin to stop the sickness xxxxxxxxxxxx

I would call just to be on the safe side! My son had similar symptoms last week apart from the sickness and the doctor said calpol every 4 hours and a steamed room in the morning and last thing at night to shift his cough! Its not totally gone but much better!

Hope she is ok and let us know! X x

I would ring nhs direct just to see what they say, to be honest she does seem dehydrated, just try and give her as much water as possible

I'm so glad you've said this now I don't feel like I'm being a complete idiot!!

Thanks to Charlie too.

I feel a bit calmer reading this so I am happier leaving her to the morning if it's just something like Norovirus that a lot of babies get. Otherwise I'll go tot he local Out of Hours service and they'll look at me like some hideous overprotective first-time mum

It's just the dehydration I'm worried about - Jodie, how did you manage that with Abigail?

Ooh and lots more replies thanks ladies

Jim's just gone to check on her. She's just sighed and turned over (I can hear it on the monitor) but he's just gone to check she's not been sick. She won't have been though; it's always about 10-15 minutes after her milk.

She's not been sick.

it was rly hard but i was just givin her cool boiled water, and i got advised to dilute her formular to 7 oz water to 3 scoops of milk to keep her hydrated. how is her fontinel? do her eyes and mouth look/feel wet xxx

Bex asked me to update this just in case you all thought she'd run away or something

Poor Connie :( She had her doctors appointment today, and she still has an ear infection that an emergancy doctor picked up on THREE weeks ago and refused to give anti-biotics for!

So she doesn't have a virus, she's just so unwell with that, that its been making her sick

Bex is very angry, as would I be.

Fingers crossed she's on the mend very soon xxxxx

I'm still not convinced it's an ear infection, myself. Surely that would give her a high temperature and make her shriek like it did three weeks ago? And why would it make her so sick?

Poorly baby now is so unresponsive. She can't do anything except sleep either in her cot or on me (that's all she's done all day except puke).

Poor Floddy. Not really sure there's much else I can do though.

probably time to phone the gp or nhs direct

Is she drinking plenty and weeing?

awwww get well soon little one

Don't know if this will be of any help but for babies or toddlers that are being very sick they can have pessaries that you put in their bum so you can get some medicine into them. Might be something to ask the doctor about if she continues to vomit. I've never had to do it but I know friends who have.

Poor bubby

Aww poor baby
Well when Cal had an ear infection and was prescribed antibiotics i noticed a difference in her within the first few doses. So hopefully you will see a difference soon.
Hope she feels better soon.

Thanks ladies.

She is a little bit better in herself today but still sleeping all the time and vomiting everything up. I took her to the doctor again last night and she said if she's no better by tomorrow morning I'm to take her back to be seen so at least I have some sort of timescale in my mind.

Thanky uo all for your help and support I am so so worried about her :(

Oh no! I hope she starts getting better soon
