views on sunbed use during pregnancy!!

Your skin is much more sensitive to the sun, high factor protection is needed. Chloasma often occurs in pregnancy and because I'm unlucky already get this anyway (its darkening patches of skin, usually on face, made worse by the sun).
I'm praying it doesn't get really bad for new as I'm very self conscious about it every summer.
As for sunbeds, my opinion is that you're stupid to do something that increases your risk of cancer just for a tan, and that's my opinion so sorry if anyone is offended by that!
At the end of the day you have to make personal decisions as to what risks you'll take but being pregnant is a blessing and I personally couldn't do anything to endanger my baby. Everyone has to judge what is an acceptable risk to them, but you're responsible for another life so I would definitely judge people who treat their bodies badly while pregnant as it's just unacceptable. And I mean excessive drinking, smoking, drugs etc not the odd McFlurry! :-)
Xx

Is this what's known as "the mask of pregnancy"?
There was a lady in clinic who had this really badly. She said there was nothing could be done for her. It was awful, she was so self conscious about it :( x

Yes, that's it. I used to have it a lot worse, caused by the pill probably but they don't know. As ever when I came off it for years it didn't go away. It makes you really paranoid. Makes me dread the summer a bit! Maybe I'll be lucky and pregnancy will bizarrely reverse the effect! Xx

Aww I hope so hun xx

why do something that MAY harm your baby? I think its totally irresponsible and SELFISH!!

especially as its for vanity reasons.

I know there is a long list of "donts" when pregnant. But for christ sake its only for 9mnths, which is why most of us stick to them. We dont want to knowingly put our babies at risk, no matter how small that risk is

YES!!!!!!! xx

ill just add most who live in hot counties cover up and don't go in mid day sun to avoid been too warm. they don't choose to go in it for a tan. i think its vain and selfish like i said i know Im judgemental lol x

I love a tan & I hate being fat and white but I am making do with spray & fake tans at the moment. As soon as babe is born I'm getting my semi perm brows done, my extensions done, I'm jumping back on the sunbed, treadmill & cracking open the champers! Lol x

Sounds good! I'm really looking forward to a glass of wine once he has arrived! :D

I wouldn't go on a sunbed while pregnant, because I wouldn't go on one normally...the risk is massive and very real. I'd rather have a fake tan thanks very much. And I do that, and I get my hair dyed. I also enjoy the odd glass of wine and probably do far too much physically than I should do! As people said, we have a lot of information at hand and it is up to the individual what risks they are happy with taking. For me, there are some I wouldn't be happy with - smoking, for example, and there are others I am happy to take - the odd bit of wine, and runny eggs for example.

I am another who thinks that it is by far healthier for an unborn child to have a mother who is relaxed and happy and takes the odd risk, than one who is stressed out and uptight about all the risk and can/cannots.

My baby had terrible complications at birth and no doctor knows what caused them. We almost lost her.

I followed all the rules so I can't think what it was, it was labelled as 'one of those things'.

However in my next pregnancy anything that poses any kind of teeny tiny risk to my baby will stay well away from me and my pregnant body. No way do I want a repeat of my first birth experience.

I dont think choosing to not do them makes for a stressed unhappy mum its not like i was sat stressing because i didnt drink (for example) i just thought 'cant do that' and went on with life. x

I'm not saying people get stressed about not doing something. I am saying that there is so much stuff put out there now, you could be wrapping yourself in cotton wool and staying in the house for 9 months worrying about things you do hurting the baby - that is not healthy. And some people do feel like that.

I dot use sunbeds............but just seen something about not eating hotdogs?!!!!!!!!! ooops!

wow ok I started going cross eyed trying to read all that so gave up! Personally I wouldn't use a sunbed, but then I wouldn't have before I got pregnant either as I'm pale & a red head so just freckle or burn (DH sings the rock lobster song at me anytime I'm out in the son). I personally don't think it's worth the risk but I am paranoid with (I feel) good reason to be considering my history. I am guilty of hot showers/baths as didn't realize the risk to baby but will now be stopping that (oh God please come fast October!)
Everyone is going to have different opinions & 9/10 women who do/did the opposite tend to get on the offensive because they think their parenting/intelligence is being called into question. I'm one of them, I smoked during my pregnancy with my DS & though I can admit I was stupid & don't agree with it being done now, I still go off like a dragon if someone else says that to me

yep hotdogs are a big fat no no apparently but you can eat sushi from the chiller cabinet from supermarkets (as it's been frozen before hand so parasites have been killed off), you can eat prawns as long as there's no immediate family with an allergy etc  the whole thing is mind boggling!

Hotdogs!???

yeah something about the meat not being pasteurized?

Hot Dogs, Luncheon Meats, and Unpasteurized Dairy Foods

These foods are prone to Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that causes listeriosis, which may result in miscarriage, stillbirth, or other serious health problems.
Besides hot dogs and luncheon meats --- which include deli ham or turkey, bologna, and salami -- other processed meats and seafood that may contain listeria include refrigerated pates or meat spreads, and refrigerated smoked seafood (such as salmon, trout, whitefish, cod, tuna, or mackerel). These items may be labeled as "nova-style," "lox," "kippered," "smoked," or "jerky."

Phew! Just googled hotdogs and its says they are generally fine as long as cooked well.

Im pretty sure one day in years to come, some poor ladies will be given a strict diet to stick to for the whole pregnancy!

Not supposed to eat ice-cream from the van either, which is killing me because it stops right outside my door & I really, really want one lol

most of it's probably fine, I mean for years we were told we couldn't eat nuts, now it's fine as long as there aren't any allergies

Guidelines are crazy for pregnancy arnt they

Let me tell you about my mum... She was 19 when she found out she was pregnant with me in 1985 and she was terrified of her parents reaction so she kept me a secret until she was nearly full term ( Nana bumped in her bump, me, and was like... Holy shit) during her pregnancy she never saw one mw... Never saw one scan... Never took anything... Had her usual favourite hot baths.. Carried on biking to work and lifting barrels at the pub she worked at. She never had Google or the Web she had no idea about anything. And here I am... A massive baby I was too!

Sunbeds are different really they are dangerous pregnant or not and guidelines set around these are to cover liability at all sides.

Food guidelines vary wildly outside the UK look at hope81 she is a Greek lady and was bought up eating pretty much anything. I have friends in thr Mediterranean and they don't have the same food no nos as us.

I do think it's a case of beig sensible.. You can eat shellfish for example when fully cooked... It's the food poisoning issue that's mostly linked to mc and all the other horrors listed. Your baby is lending your immune system so if there were some nastys in there you are a lot more susceptible to catching them. Then obv when you're poorly baby is. Most likely going to suffer the repercussions.

I think it's a personal choice what you do when you know you have a live fluttering away inside you. I for example stopped smoking straight away and did it all by the book but I mc? It's Easy for me to look back and think... Omg I shouldn't have lifted that.. Or I shouldn't have done this.. But some things aren't meant to be

Just a ramble here really interesting to see a varied amount of views on dos and don'ts so thought I'd throw my bone in!
