Hi all....this is all very confusing! I am 29 weeks pregnant and measuring small-fundal height-I am measuring small with the tape the midwives use...and have to wait til XMAS EVE on a growth scan....which seems ages away!!

I myself have a low BMI-have always been thin. This is my second pregnancy and first little boy was small too. He was born at term at 6lbs 2 oz--he is now 2 and big for his age!!

Anyways...because of my low BMI I am sent for growth scans anyway. Had my last one 3 weeks ago when I was 26 weeks pregnant. Baby was doing great and weighed 2lbs at 26 weeks....so i now have no idea why im measuring small at 29 weeks...very worrying

I have to wait 3 weeks to see consulant and just dont understand why a growth scan at 26 weeks showed baby to be prefect size...3 weeks later my fundal height is still measuring 26cm! :-(

I should also add that at my growth scan 3 weeks ago the consulant didnt measure fundal height-she just used scan.

Any stories will be great XX

iv had growth scans too.. i had one at 36 weeks which was all fine then when i went to my 40 week appoinment i was measuring 4cm too small but everything was fine...
i feel midwives measuring you with the tape measure isnt very accurate on baby size as it all depends on how baby was lying, how much water your carrying etc...
hope everything goes ok but easier said than done i wouldnt worry about it

Ive had this too. I had only grown 1cm in 3/4weeks. The mw called and arranged a growth scan for the next day and my baby was measuring ok for their dates. Im petite, only 5ft and had a low but healthy bmi before pregnancy so they said its just not going to be in my genes to have a big baby. Is there no way u can call and try and get an earlier growth scan? Speak to your mw about how anxious you are about it? I was at mw today expecting to have to go for another growth scan but bump has just had a nice growth spurt. Do you know what position your baby is in too because this can affect bump size too. Hope everything works out ok for you! Xx

I didnt grow at all according to fundal height from 28w to 31 weeks - my midwife wasnt concerned so havent been sent for a scan!? although will see what happens at 34weeks.

Thanks for the replies ladies....yes I think Il call midwife tomorrow and see what she thinks...

My baby was in a head down position when midwife measured me. I have a high placenta...which used to stop me even feeling baby kick- Could that affect a fundal height measurement. Placenta is right at top of womb...

Going to try not to worry, but xmas eve seems too far away for a scan.

Hi Claire, I was told I am measuring small at my midwifes appt last Monday and referred me for a growth scan on the Thursday. The scan confirmex that baby is small and I was given steroid injections to boost babys lungs. I was scared at the time but on reflection I think that we're being monitored and even though your scan isnt until Christmas eve, if they had a serious concern, you'd have been in asap. Try not to worry, easier said than done I know!! It maybe that for you, the 'norm' is that you have small babies... Easier to push out hopefully!! ;-) xx

I had my 38 week appt last week and my fundal measurement was 34!! I was measuring fine all the way through, so got sent to the hospital that day and had a growth scan. In fact baby was measuring perfectly for dates, and in some cases bigger! So don't panic about fundal height hun, it's not an accurate science!

Hi lovely :)
I was measured by my MW at my last appointment and was measuring the same as I had done two weeks previous. I got sent for a growth scan and baby is fine.. Got remeasured by another MW at the hospital and I was 35cm ( at 36 weeks) so I was worried for nothing. Apparently measuring fundal height is rather subjective. X

I'm measuring almost 3 weeks small, and got told if i dont catch up i'll be sent for a growth scan too. I'm not too worried tho.... i see it as a chance to see her again before she arrives! I also read the other day about a lady who was measuring 35weeks at 40..... she gave birth to a 10lbs 13oz baby!!!! Makes me want to keep my legs crossed ha ha!! x x

I measured small throughout my pregnancy and so did my baby, they had me so panicked about the whole thing it caused so much extra stress!
My bump seemed to grow in spurts rather than steadily and my baby was born at 40+2 a small, healthy 6lbs 5 oz.
Try not to let it worry you, I know it's hard though but every one is different and the fundal measurement is sometimes just taken too seriously!
