So I had the hooping cough vaccine today. I was booked in for my flu jab at the same time but I decided to opt out of having it for a number of reasons. I was given the third degree and almost got made to feel as though she was assessing my mental state!!

Anyone else decided against vaccinations? Am I being silly not to have it?

It's completely up to you Hun and they shouldn't have given you the third degree for your choices. I had both whooping cough and flu jab a few weeks back.

Out of curiosity, why did you decide to accept the whooping cough but not the flu? X

She said she was going to pass it on to my midwife!! Made me feel pretty rubbish!

I went for the whooping cough as I know someone who's little girl caught it when she was about 2 months. She spent a few nights in hospital and she wasn't able to breastfeed. A few months on and she is still tiny and still has coughing fits.

I did some research on the flu jab and it was surprising what I found. The main one that decided it for me is that they develop a new vaccine yearly but there are at least 3 different strains of the flu so even if you have the jab you aren't vaccinated against all the flu's. Also I was brought up using homeopathic medicines so would like to avoid chemicals as much as poss.

I didn't have the flu jab (but did have whooping cough) same as you. Totally your choice and I like you weighed it up and decides against it. I also had the flu jab in my first pregnancy and my daughter was 10days late and only 5lb7. Totally missed low birth weight and all ok at the 20wl scan and on bump measures etc. it's written in my notes in my red book that 'mum given flu jab???' And was suggested this could have contributed to lbw. So there was no way I was having it this time. Plus I still got flu in my first so it was pointless!!

Don't feel bad for not having it. Totally personal choice just keep an eye on yourself and if you feel poorly make sure you get advice. X x

What!! No way... That was another thing I read during my research... The fact that it isn't actually proven to be totally safe!!

i'll never know honey whether it was just a throw away comment by the paediatrician or whether there is any substance to it. But it was such a scary time when she was born so small. The same paediatrician also told me when she was less than 24hra old when I was alone/exhausted/fragile after an emergency section that my daughter could be any thing from perfectly fine to severely disabled as we had no idea why she was so small. Part of me thinks he was just a bit of an awful doctor but you don't forget comments !! Eapecially when it's documented. My daughter is perfect and excelling in everyway! He told me he had to warn me there may be something wrong as if he didn't and there was id question why I wasn't told. X xx

That's appalling!! Some bedside man or and empathy he had!! Sounds like you had a tough time in hospital. Bless you. Glad she is perfect :) cannot wait for my little girl to be here xx

Little girls are awesome!!! But I am biased! Hehe. Don't let the nurses comments worry you or spoil your pregnancy. As you say some medical professionals really need to have a look at thier communication skills!!!

I don't know what I'm having this time around, 3 weeks tomorrow and I'll have baby no2!
