I'll not bore u all with the full story but I've not had a great time in relation to midwives and apts etc having moved back to the Uk half way through my pregnancy.

Anyway I've opted for a home birth, and saw my lady at 31 weeks... All was fine, I felt happy I was finally getting somewhere, till today. At that apt she said she would call today to arrange the home assessment for this week and obviously my check up.

Well I just knew I'd get no call. So left it till around 3 then rang the north team number I've been given, which most the time goes to answer machine, but it hot answered today!!! They said she's not in till Wednesday so they'll leave a message for her to ring me then.

I feel So frustrated. I had a bit of a dip this weekend feeling a little low and scared, and i really feel like I need to trust these people and I can't, which isnt helping me or baby as I've just cried this afternoon. Why say shed call today and then not be in till Wednesday, which means the visit has to be thurs or fri, if not another week has passed.

I've no real contacts, whenever u read stuff on here and see people saying call your midwife, I've no way of doing this as don't have a number for them, as like I said the number I have is an answer machine.

Just upset and wanted a moan.

:hugs: not been in this situation so not sure what advice to give just wanted to give you a :hugs: xxx

 maybe when she does eventually come you should explain to her how let down you feel by it all? Sorry you are having such a crappy time :( x

Hope u feel better soon! I don't have my midwives no either just the docs!

Thanks girls.

I think I'll have to say something, but I dont want to not have her on side if this makes sense. I want to feel happy on the day that she is around.

Just feel like I'm losing confidence as my date gets closer and it's not good.... I don't want to be feeling like this!

Need to pull myself together and get tougher...... And stop crying!

Tink u should explain to her when u do speak her were r u from Hun a don't have pacific midwife but a can call hospital and there's always midwife there help u have any problems x

I'm having a similar problem with my midwife at the moment!! She was supposed to come round to do my home birth talk yesterday but never showed... Not even a phone call to say she couldn't make it. She was supposed to be here at 12 so by the time half 2 had come round and no sign of her I gave her a text... No reply... 4 o clock... Still nothing tried calling... No answer... Tried again at 4:30 and 5 but still nothing, so I gave up.

Tried to call her 7 times today and she never answered her phone and I don't have another number to contact her on! Just going to bring it up at the childrens centre tomorrow and see if there's anything they can do to help...

Bloody midwives!!

Hope you get something sorted hun xx

Oh that's just really bad!

She was supposed to call to arrange my home assessment, and my check up.... I'm more bothered that she's not rang and won't till Wednesday, then if she can't fit us in thurs or fri I'm more concerned about me and bump not being checked over, than the house being assessed.... Which I assume is just what goes where.

We should be able to trust these ladies, as opting for a home birth is what I want, but I want to feel safe and secure and that I can contact her when necessary!

Not good, hope u get sorted! I'll have to speak with her when I finally get to chat to her and try and be diplomatic but that I need to feel I can rely on them. I dont Wang a bad relationship with her and I think that's what's upsetting.

Hey hun... are you with the midwives at the Memorial Hospital? I'm not having a home birth but I find it really hard to get in touch with them as well!

I see my midwife at murston childrens centre but i believe she's part of the memorial lot... it's terrible!! x

For the ladies who are having home births and problems being able to contact your MW...I'm just curious as to what happens if you actually do go into labour and can't get any response from them? Would you then call the place where they're based and get another MW sent out by them if yours is unavailable? x

exactly what ive been fretting about cause i dont know  xx

That would freak me out too hunni. If I was you, that'd be the first question that I'd ask the MW when you do get a hold of her or the place she's based at. Its meant to be as relaxed a time as it can be for you having a home birth! You don't need the stress of not being able to contact your midwife whilst in labour. x

Tell me about it lol... Well I'm at the childrens centre tomorrow to see my health visitor so will ask them then :) xx

I'm assuming u must get given mobile numbers once your near to due date, but I don't know. That's what's upsetting me. Plus I've no apt booked for a check or anything which I hate not knowing when I'll next be seen, when I know I should be checked this week.

Will be going to her clinic on Wednesday if she doesn't call that morning and speaking to her about it, even tho I've no apt!

my midwife is useless :( my appointments are always really rushed (by her) she doesn't listen to what i say, and she's always running behind, and i mean really behind, my appointment last friday was at 10 (the 4th appointment of the day) and i went in at 10:35!!!! which means the lady before me was in there for 50 mins and i was out in less than 10 mins

as for contacting her, i'm lucky that i haven't had to so far, but have just literally realised that i only have a number for the "community midwives liaison officer" so not even a direct number for her, which i'm kind of glad of as i don't want her involved in my birth anyway, she just stresses me and my OH out! im nearly 38 weeks now and according to the NHS leaflet she gave me at my booking my appointments are now supposed to be every week, not seeing her again now until just over 39 weeks so that's a two week gap :s never mind!

I have to say that I have no idea why anyone would opt for a homebirth! But thats just cos I'm a scaredy cat! The thought of a homebirth literally brings me to tears! I think you are brave girls and understand that you have reasons for opting for this route.

However I must admit that the uncertainty of the reliability of your midwives makes me wonder just how structured and organised the whole thing is? Surely you should have been told all the contact details and all the tips on what to do if you can't actually reach the midwife when in labour? For someone like me not being able to get hold of her would have me running to hospital by foot if needs be!

Do you think maybe its all so disorganised in a mad method to make you change your mind and opt for a hospital birth? Thats maybe a silly question, but again, the scaredy cat in me made me say it!.....

Well my midwife finally called me this morning and is coming round tomorrow to do the home birth talk/risk assessment... So I'll let you know what happens about number etc xx

I think that in terms of contact it's the same as getting in touch with the midwives in general, I don't think it's specifically cos they are hombirth midwives. My understanding is that you go down the same route as everyone else until nearer to your due date then u can contact them directly. Before I opted for home birth I had similar problems, so I think that getting in touch with them in this area is just crap!!

I understand your points on homebirth, but for me the scary things happen inside a hospital..., I'd much rather be at home, but it's personal choice, we are all different,
