Hi Ladies
Thanks again for your messages.
I've felt a bit tired and achey today. Had a few twinges like period cramps but nothing too bad. I can feel the baby moving about which is very reassuring.
I didn't go to work and won't tomorrow either. I was told there's a 1 in 100 chance of miscarraige with the test so I'm trying to take it easy for the first few days. Any excuse to put my feet up ah?
Valentine - What you are offered does vary between areas and also will differ depending on your age.
In my area the Nuchal Translucency scan is done for "at risk" mums to be. I'm in that category because of my age (41). It's a measurement of the fluid at the back of the baby's neck and can only be done between 11-13 weeks. That measurement, with other facts such as age, give a ratio of how likely the baby is to be Downs Syndrome. I got a 1 in 208 chance which is classed "high" (anything under 250 is "high")
The CVS test is a diagnostic test and also known as the Choronic Villus Sample test. It's like Amnio but a needle is inserted into the womb (through the stomach) and a small amount of cells are removed from the placenta. These are tested for chromosonal deficiencies. Again, I was offered this test because of being in a high risk range. The CVS test doesn't give the odds or likelihood of having a baby with DS it will actually tell us yes/no if the baby has any chromosonal problems.
I feel like a doctor telling all this
I'm not at all but I have read up on it loads because I knew I'd be faced with this problem due to being so "old" (but young at heart)
