Unsure, so thought I would ask!!

Hi ladies,

Maisie is just over a month old, she feeds well having 5 oz every 4 hours - sometime 3!
Ever since she was born we have her SMA gold, she poos every 2 days but the days she does poo she seems to have to work at it! She goes red in the face a sometimes cries.
The last 2 times have been the worst, she gets really upset and uncomfortable. Last night she cried for 3 hours, I didn't know what it was then as soon as she pooed she was fine and was falling asleep whilst I changed her.
She does seem to have a lot of wind from the bottom but that would be me thinking its a lot!

So what I'm asking is, do I change her formula, and if so can this cause colic?
I've read aptamil is good, but I'm worried Maisie will be hungry on that as she does love her milk?

Or is there no need to change her formula and this is just normal for Maisie and I shouldn't worry!

Whats her poos consistency?

I forgot to mention her poos are normal and soft! Not hard at all!

Yes when she is struggling I looked online and it told me how to massage her tummy which I have done, sometimes it seems to help other times not xx

Maybe try giving her an ounce of cooled boiled water once or twice a day? That might help x

Alfie is 4 weeks today and goes every other day and can sometimes struggle. We give him a warm bath and it tends to help clear his wind and get things moving. Ditto with the baby massage too. Alfie is on 5oz of aptamil every 3-4 hours and he seems pretty happy. Some days he will go every day more than once. It just depends.

I've started dentinox just incase it's nothing to do with poo it's the wind!!

SMA is high in Iron and quite thick from what I remember. Try to give some extra cool boiled water. Start with max of 3 oz a day. I swapped to hip and my little one started pooing more frequently as on SMA he was really frustrated an entire day before he pooped.

I had this problem with sma gold, switched to sma comfort and it was all good

We had this problem with Elara on Aptamil. Poor thing would cry from discomfort trying to pass wind. So we switched to Cow & Gate and passing wind was no trouble for her on it.

There's aptamil hungry milk if you're worried the standard stuff won't fill her up? I don't use it though so couldn't comment in how it is x

Thanks ladies, last night at the same time Maisie cried for around 2 hours so think it's colic!
Have changed her milk to aptamil comfort, giving her dentinox and have gripe water just incase!!! X
