Hi everyone,
I've been to see the midwife again today for blood pressure checks as it's been quite high over the last few weeks. I'm 37+5 weeks

On Tuesday when i saw the midwife, she wrote in my notes that baby was "3/5 engaged".
Today when i have been for a check, she has written in my notes "Free Engagement"
This is my first baby and i have no idea what alot of the abbreviations mean and i find myself Googling quite often.
I've been feeling my baby move alot and have recently been getting cramps low down and slight pain in my back. When i mentioned this to the midwife on Tuesday, she said that it was because baby was 3/5 engaged. Today, i feel slightly worried that in my notes, she wrote "Free engagement" without saying anything, i've only noticed when i got home and read through them.
I guess that i just wanted to ask, is this normal? Especially after all of the pain that i've been suffering over the last few days. Should my baby be "Free" after already being noted as 3/5?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Nat.

Hey, I’m 31+5 and saw my midwife today. She said baby was very low down and after reading this post I checked my notes and it says 4/5! It doesn’t say however if that’s above or in the pelvis!

Sorry I can’t specifically answer your questions tho!

3/5 means there's 3 5ths of babies head above and out of the pelvis. Free engagement means there's no engagement. They can spring in and out though and it doesn't really mean anything
