Good evening everyone. Myself and partner found out we are going to be having a baby! So excited. My girlfriend is about 8 weeks pregnant. We have a friend who works for a private healthcare clinic who is not a midwife but offered us an early scan to try and see if we could see the baby.

We did it today and here is the picture... We are thinking it may be twins. Is there anyone experienced who can confirm this for us by looking at this early scan? Our friend is no midwife so doesn't know herself. After having looked online we have convinced outselves that it's identical twins.

Anyone help?

cant help, but didn't want you to feel ignored and wanted to say congratulations! maybe worth showing it to ur midwife

Hi, congratulations. We had a scan at 7 weeks and as our twins are non identical we could clearly see 2 separate sacs and 2 babies. (I'm unable to upload pics)
Looking at your scan I can see how your thinking identical twins, like pp said show your midwife and see what they think.

I've just had identical twins and my first scan looked very similar to that!

I think I'd pay for a private scan as the suspense would be too much for me! Good luck :)

Thanks guys really appreciate the responses!

I think we may have to get another scan lol. Will keep you updated

I had a scan at 6+5. I'll see if I can find the picture to upload. My twins were identical mo/di ( one placenta 2 sacs)

Hey Hutchy thanks for the reply, do you have the picture still? If so could you post picture on here?

Caseysmummy11 thanks for the pic

I don't know how to upload my scan but I had one that looks very similar except the guy who did my scan said there is only one in there and the other 'mass' I could see was just another normal bit of early pregnancy I'd ask a professional

Hi it is difficult to say from your picture that it is not twins, however I have a small amount of professional experience with ultrasound, in your picture you can see an obvious gestational sac (dark round area) within this at 7 o'clock position is the yolk sac (has round white edges and dark centre) and at 5 o'clock position what appears to be the fetal pole.

If you look closely at caseysmummy11's photo you will see 2 yolk sacs within the gestational sac, there is one fetal pole also in the plane her scan was taken.

An ultrasound is not really meant to be interpreted by the static images afterwards, it is more of a dynamic investigation, I cannot say this is not a twin pregnancy on this one view, but from this view I can only see one baby. Hope you get a final answer soon, maybe book an early reassurance scan. Good luck and congratulations.
