...is it true that twins can run in families or is it just a coincedance? ( i cant spell)

My mum and my nanan where both twins (and the 1st born babies by there mothers)..does that mean i have a good chance of having twins?

It does run in families on the maternal (ie your!) side, and is more common with non-identical twins. :)

ot oh!! if i have twins im going to be huge! thank god i have big hips...(i hear that makes child birth easier? )

only fraternal (non identical) twins can run in families.
Identical ones are random.

I would like twins yeah. But i wouldnt like my 1st kids to be twins, it would be too much!

I'd love someone on the forum to have twins, that would be great! I wouldn't want it to be me though

i think if i was having twins i would be worried about one of them dieing  My mum had a miscarriage and wouldnt tell me anything about it which makes me think it was my twin...i dont know why, cant really explain it...but it feels like that!

id say you have a strong chance of having twins then.
Its the mothers side that counts when it comes to twins and seeing as you have two setsthat yo know of theres a pretty high chance. You ought to trace your familiy tree and see if there are any more :D

Jenna, I would get a scan asap if you are worried about it. If you tell your doctor as much as you now about the twin problems in your family he/she will be able to help I'm sure.
Also, I would consider talking to your mom, or at the very least getting your mom to talk to your GP if she doesn't want to tell you. Whatever info she may have could really help you get treatment to help your twins stay healthy (if you do have twins that is!)

Good luck!

Oh sorry that'll teach me to pay more attention to tickers won't it hehe!

My advice still applies about the GP though Jenna :)

hehe i havnt got my BFP yet!

I cant trace anything futher than my nanan because she was adopted. All i know is that she was a twin and so was my mum and they were both the 1st children to the mother and they both had twin sisters and they both had there sister die before birth because they didnt develope!

Yup!

Fraternal twins run on the maternal side of the family.

Our history skips a genertaion.

My nan had a twin brother and I have girl, boy twin.

Scared that this one will be twins too!

I must admit tho Jenna, I'm glad that my twins were my first pregnancy as I had no expectations, didn't know what it was like to look after one so i think it works easier that way!

Good luck!

My friend is currently pregnant with twins and she has no twins in her family but her boyfriend is a twin. She is due the same date as me but if she gets to 39weeks they are going to induce her. She had a growth scan last week and one is weighing at 6lb 1oz and the other is weighing at 7lb 2oz...bless her, they are both girls. I can't wait to meet both her little girlies.....soooo exciting.
I was a little worried about twins as they are on both sides of the family but i'm only keeping one little baby warm...
xxxxxx
