I was just wondering this...
My OH is a twin, identical. I also have identical twin uncles. (They're my mom's brothers.)
What's the probability, you think, that we may have twins??? I'm 26 and he's 29, if that in any way matters.
(Brought on by a dream I had last night where a friend of mine was preggo with twins and didn't know it! AHHH!)

I'd also like to hear ANYONE's twin experiences...those are always fun to share!

Don't have any twin stories really. Just to say I'd be dead chuffed if I got pregnant with twins! :D

im a twin (fraternal) my nan (dads mum) was a twin unfortunalty died b4 it was born. so it should work out my kids or my neices or nephew will av twins.

so it willbe the same for you.

but stranger things av happened

My dad's mom concieved twins too, but one was stillborn.
Oh, I'm not desperately hoping for twins. Especially not on our first run at parenthood. That's like suicide.
I just wanted to know, if anyone had any idea, what our chances were...incase I need to be prepared!!!
I know that no one can really PREDICT it, but...I hate surprises!!!

Ok i know the answer to this one.

Twins usually follow a pattern of every other generation, ie if your husbands mum was a twin then you would have a higher risk of twins.

Also the twin gene is only carried in the paternal side not the maternal side, so twins on a mothers side should be disregarded but twins on the fathers side counted.

We researched the whole twins thing as every other generation on my husband side has twins and we were worried. On my first scan with dd sonographer thought she was twins but wasnt. We have a high 67% chance of twins. Not my idea of fun!!!! :rotfl:

Also got a lot of info for mw , who was very knowledable. (for once)

Identical twins are a random act of nature and are not heriditary- it is non identical twins that are herditiary on the maternal side.

This is probably because there is a higher than usual chance of you releasing more than one egg each month and that is what is heriditary.

Well...it sounds as if either way I'm in the clear.
Fraternal twins do not run in either of our families. It does seem like I remember hearing somewhere that they were the ones that were hereditary, and not identicals.
My OH is identical, which means nothing for us either way! (Even if identicals WERE hereditary, it would not be our generation who had them.)

Thanks ladies! Anytime I have a question someone comes to my rescue! Women are SOOO smart for thinking up a Q & A forum about pregnancy! MEN would never have the brains to think this up.

Thats why we are given the opportunity to give birth and men are not :rotfl: :rotfl:

Paris's dad is a twin (identical) - but they say it usually skips a generation. There are fraternal twins in my family too.

my best friend was a twin her mum was a twin her mums mum was a twin and her mums mum mum was a twin.....
