Hi everyone. My lo is about to turn 1 and I was just wondering about the change to cows milk and what to do and do they still have formula aswell as the cows milk? Does sterilisation change ? Clueless ! Any help would be appreciated

I just switched - didn't wean, just stopped formula completely. Stopped sterilising too. Just washed the bottles.

Same here. Stopped sterilising completely at one. Ds1 made the switch to cows milk easily and dropped formula straight away. Ds2 didnt like cows milk to start with so we did half cows milk, half formula in his cup and slowly decreased the amount of formula going in. After a couple of weeks he was fine with cows milk. Good luck x

We stopped sterilizing completely at 1 year old. Initially we switched to cow's milk and our son loved it, but he also started getting diarrhoea and turns out he's lactose intolerant! He drinks lactose-free milk now.

My advice would be to do it slowly - say half and half for a week or so before going to all cow's milk. Sometimes they take ages to get used to it. My daughter will still only drink formula and she'll be 3 next week... Mind you, now she's finally over 2 stone in weight, I think I'll be putting my foot down.

Are you supposed to add vitamin drops to milk still? When my 17 year old was a baby you got these vitamin drops to add to cow's milk. x

Yeh. I get mine from the childrens centre x

I stopped sterilising completely and made a gradual move over to cows milk by replacing it with 2oz of his formula every other day.

I never added vitamin drops though.

I stopped sterilising about a month ago and thomas is now 1. The week before I started to slowly reduce the amount of forumula and put some cows milk in the bottle. So first I did 7oz formula and 2oz cows milk and I've slowly increased the amount of cows milk since. I'm just using up the remaining formula I have now and then he will be totally cows milk. So far he hasn't noticed the difference and I'be seen no difference in his poos

I was recommended to use vitamin drops but I've bought the ones you pop straight in their mouth as I was worried that I wouldn't know of hed had enough as he doesn't always drink all of his bottles and that seems to work fine. They're called abidec. Apparently not all children get all the vitamins they need at this age so to be on the safe side vitamin drops are recommended

I stopped sterilising bottles at 1 and I weaned LO onto cows milk from 11 and half months. I started off introducing 4oz cows milk a day and gradually increased the amounts until the formula was phased out completely. The reason I did it before she turned one was the I only had half a tub of formula left and didn't see point in buying a new one when she was about to turn one x

We just stopped sterilising as soon as LO was one.

We did it gradually to get LO used to cows milk and just gave him vitamins on their own.

It was my mum who told me about the vitamins, HV and GP didn't mention a bloody thing!

I microwave it. A 9oz bottle takes 40 seconds (850w) and it's just right for drinking. My son refuses to drink his unless he sees it come out of the microwave! I obviously shake it thoroughly before giving it to him x

Yeah I microwave 9oz for 50 sec and just give it a shake- thomas prefers his on the warmer side

I just give it cold, my daughter is happy to drink it cold x

Yup straight out the fridge here too.

I was one of these terrible mothers you hear about who made bottles up in advance, so my LO was used to formula out the fridge.

Harper has hers either straight out the fridge or in the mic for 20-30 secs to take the chill off.

She never liked her formula warm either. Would rather it at room temp x

We warmed ours in the bottle warmer like usual until he had it out of the beaker. Now we give it about 30-40 secs in the microwave which just takes the edge off. He will have it cold, but prefers it slightly warmer.

I followed pumpkins suggestion as LO wouldn't drink cows milk. Took 2 days to wean him onto it & he drinks it fine. No upset tummy either
