My little lady is going to have her first spoonfuls of food tomorrow! Yay!!!

I've been planning to introduce a new food every couple of days, and doing this at lunchtime so that LO and I both have time to get our heads around it.....only trouble is, I'm out and about most days this week........

Thought I'd start with pureed carrot tomorrow, but then when I go out on Tuesday should I give it to her cold? I know I could mash up a banana, but I know at some point I'll be out with purees - can't give her banana every day!

What do other traditional weaners do when out and about? Do you heat the food somehow, or givie it to them cold? Any tips for good out and about foods and how to store/heat them?

Thank you!

PS Planning to make my own purees in case that makes a difference to your suggestions. Ta x

I found the Heinz dried food really good out and about. I'd put it in a bowl along with a small flask of hot water. Then I'd make it up when I needed it.

TBH (not probably what you want to hear) I found BLW really easy when out and about as it was really easy to find foods I could give T if I was out unexpectedly at mealtimes.... are you pureeing or mashing food? ... maybe small bowls of what is left from the previous nights meal? most places have some sort of heating facilities... :flower:

I use Ella's pouches when I'm out and home made when I'm in unless we are going somewhere I can put it in the fridge.

I started with evening meal for this exact reason as I was at home at this time most days and out and about at lunch times. It has meant I have got my confidence up with it all before attempting going out.

On tapatalk so can't see tickers :-(
Excuse the typos, phone has mind of its own.

Ooh that's an idea....I wouldn't mind starting with breakfast, but I don't think I'd feel right giving her veg for brekkie!!! Ha ha! Maybe I shouldn't be so strict with the time of day...

I've always done home made re and had no problem when out and about. If I'm somewhere that I can get it heated then I do but if not then Jax is brilliant and will just eat it cold x

On holiday I took Ellas touches, Jax seemed fine with them but they look and taste disgusting compared to homemade!

Thanks DW - glad you replied as I was just thinking about this thread again today. We're in our first week of weaning, so I'm just trying her with things when we're home at the moment, but I'd like to be braver as LO (and I) get the hang of things.

Do you take things out from the fridge or freezer and keep them in a cool bag when you're out?

I was thinking today that things like pureed apple or pear would probably be quite nice cold anyway....or I could mash banana while we're out.

What sort of places do you go to that have heating facilities? (never needed these before, so don't know where would do it :???:)

x

If I know there are going to be heating facilities then I just take the food out frozen in the weaning 'ice' cubes (in a plastic Avent screw top pot). I don't do anything to keep it cold, just when I reheat it just make sure its heated well. If I know there are no heating facilities, I heat the food really well in the microwave at home and then just let it cool in the nappy bag and serve it cold. Also don't put in a cool bag or anything like that.

All cafes/restaurants I've been to have heating facilities - even some McD's that I've been to have microwaves for the public to use. Even on the Condor ferry, they have a microwave.

We have home made at home and when we're out and about either a new jar at room temperature or a mashed banana. We probably have mashed banana at home every other day he loves it so much.
