So, basically I started a thread about joshuas weight gain. I have also noticed that feeding has become more difficult lately and more painful. I'm breast feeding and he just gets so fussy on the nipple and gets so frustrated. I decided to pop to the breast feeding support group and spoke with the lady there. I burst into tears explaining all the symptoms and felt so close to giving up breast feeding. She was really helpful. Had a feel around in his mouth and believes he has tongue tie. He has now been referred to Southampton hospital for tongue tie release. Its a minor op that involves snipping membrane under his tongue but I will still be worrying. But fingers crossed this will help solve the problems. I don't want to give up breast feeding. :-(

Has anyone elses LOs had this op?xx

Awwww I'm sorry hon but hopefully this will be the best thing for you and Joshua. No advice, just hugs x

Thank you. When I went onto the tongue tied site, it all just seemed like it was something I wrote. Fingers crossed this will help.xx

Didn't jaycee'smumma's LO?

Yes she did

One of the girls from my NcT group little girl had this op and all was fine. Her mum said it wasn't stressful as she thought and all is going well now x

Hiya,Issac had this done its painless he only cried because he was swaddled. Unfortunately for me this hadn't helped, i was too late and he was stick in his way off feeding from the nipple and not enough breast. The suckling was stronger so it had worked i just couldn't change his latch. I no express all his feeds.

I hope this works for you and fingers crossed ur breast feeding support group help you after x

Thank you. What age was he when he had it done? Josh is 14 weeks and they said it should be done in next couple of weeks.x

We had Emily's Tongue tie divided when she was 12 days old. She had 100% Tongue tie. It was a very quick procedure - she did cry a little, there was a small amount of bleeding, which was stopped quickly by pressing a gauze under the Tongue. Then Emily was put straight on me to feed and all was well. :). It healed very quickly and thee was some improvement in her ability to feed effectively. If you want any more info, please ask! :). Good luck! :)

Thank you. We're you in the room while it was being done then? I'm worried I'll cry lol. I did at his jabs. :-( I'm hoping we haven't left it too late. I am just glad it's not something I'm doing wrong.x

We had ours done at home - my husband stayed in the room whilst it was done and I stayed in the lounge next door! I thought I might cry too! Emily did only cry for a very short while though, and they do say it is relatively painless. I don't think you have left it too late. It didn't dramatically improve things for us - not enough for me to exclusively breastfeed :-( but there was definite improvement. :)

hey hun, sorry your having to go through this.. i have a thread on here about it (possibly two) with images before and after.. its really nothing to worry about hun its so simple and quick, lily didnt even flinch! and it healed so well so soon i was shocked! shes absolutely fine now.. she did drop alot of weight so i didnt want to wait and got a mw to come to our home which was much more peaceful for her (and us) maybe worth looking into, two weeks is a long time to wait, and we were classed as 'urgent' too! i contacted a mw and she came that evening! pm me if you need anything hun!

Hi the tongue tie was cut at 14weeks. But i must tell you he was poorly latched and lazy, once the fast flow stopped or even slow he would stress himself out to the point he spent most his time off and screaming at my breast than actually feeding, i thought it was normal but didn't ever want to feed him in public. I only found out from going to a bf support group but after the tongue was cut i went back and they pretty much told me i had to up my milk supply.

Impossible by breastfeeding exclusivly so now i changed my diet and take tablets to help me.

Sorry I've waffled on lol x

Tbh hun I'd get it done sooner rather than later your supply will drop like ours did.. Had such a struggle with bf so I had to give up when she was 4months x

How old was you LO when she had it done? Apparently if it was noticed before 12 weeks, it could of been done at my local hosp. But he is 14 weeks and I have to go to Southampton (about 40miles from mine) to get it done. :-( x

She was 14 and a half weeks.. I don't get why they are sending u so far it's usually 6 months old they need a proper op because of the vessels etc.. I'd look into getting a mw to come to u hun it was £100 for ours and she came the same day I contacted her..

Mine was about 2/3 weeks old...there nothing I can add that the others haven't said. Except-I cried and they had tissues all ready for me on the table. So don't worry about that. I didn't really notice a difference-he still fusses at the breast but I think that's down to laziness now as I had been told to give him formula top ups coz his weight dropped so much! I wish I didn't now only coz I can't get him off it and he is on mainly formula coz I'm not enough for him!
