So Summer is now 5 weeks old and is now fully on formula as my milk wasn't feeding her up as my supply was rubbish :0(
Feel like a terrible mummy but that's something else I'll deal with but for now I'm struggling with the stupid bottles as they leak all the Blumin time!

For those using the anti colic tommee tippee bottles how do you make up your formula? I've tried pouring in boiling water then adding the formula then putting in the anti colic tubes and then rapid cooling before putting them in the fridge. But then they leak and the round valve falls off in the centre?
I've also tried pouring in boiling water. Letting it cool slightly then adding the formula waiting for that to cool then add the tubes and they still leak and the valve comes off?

Surely thee has to be an easy way? What am I doing wrong?

When I pour in the ready made formula from the carton into the bottle it doesn't leak and the valve stays put? So it must have something to do with the water being hot and cooling? But you have to have the water hot to kill the bugs in the formula?? I'm banging my head against a brick wall!!
HELP!! X

I mixed my formula with cool boiled water xx

i use cool water too hated the new anti colic ones so stuck to the old ones that don't leek fx xx

But the water has to be over 70oc to kill the bugs in the powdered formula? X

I think it has to have *been* boiled but should be cooled for a maximum for 30 minutes before using, which is the 70*.

Ah ok cool. Will see if that works xx

I hate TT bottles, I binned all mine :D

The normal ones are anti colic in anycase so I wouldnt bother with the extra bit!!
xxx

i just used the normal ones, there is such a thing as worrying too much. i think all lo's get colic to some degree and nothing is ever going to be 100% sterile. if your formula is made fresh and drank in the same day its is highly unlikely that any bacteria could grow fast enough to cause any problems so whatever way you make it the milk should be fine.

Fab advice!! X

Thanx hun. Will continue how I was xx

I used those for a while i made mine up with cool water. i forget to fill the flask with it hotter but has had no ill affects plus my other son i used cold water out of the kettle after it was boiled all day and he was fine as i nuked them in microwave to warm up x

Ive never had that prob with tommee tippee bottles but always avent.
have you cheaked the teat is on properly? that could make it leak. or maybe a fault batch? could you take them back to the shop? we use tommee tippee closer to nature too

I boil the kettle leave to cool 10-20mins pour in the water, put scoops in, lids on and shake then cool down. x

Where are they leaking from? We discovered that if you shake the bottle too much to mix the formula, then the milk goes up the air tube and then comes out the hole at the top of the tube. Haven't had the problem with the valve falling off tho xx

Your supposed to mix the formula with water that is 70degrees hot, and then let it cool down until it is luke warm to feed the baba. (does letting boiled water sit for 30 minutes equal 70 degrees??? Doesn't it depend on how much water you boil and the room tempreture?)

70 degrees is the tempreture that kills the bacteria but is cool enough not to kill the nutrients.

Only catch is, how on earth do you time this with when baba is hungry.

I boil my water and when it is luke warm, I put it in a flask and when baba is hungry I mix the formula up.

Midwives and health professions would shoot me down. :x But hey I know there is a small risk that baba might get ill from the bacteria in the powder. but he has been fine for the last 5 months!!

Remember it's all guidelines and recommendations.

Ta chic. Will give it a go at letting it cool after the hot water has been mixed with the formula before putting the lids on xx

I think they are not great too but I use them and I don't want to buy more,if you put too hot water in it and then it cools down (and stands in the refridgerator) the plastic shrinks and makes them go wonky and leak. Also putting them in the diwshwasher makes them odd.

I used to boil the water and leave it to cool down to room temperature (which the formula instructions tell you to do) and then put the formula in and shake and don't screw the lid on too tight), then place it in the fridge. I never heard abt nugs in the powder just thought you had to boilt he water for the germs that might be in the water. I never bother to boil the water now (but must say my girl is almost 1,5 years so that is not an issue since she is not only on formula).
