My little girl is 18 months old and for the past week or so she's started to put food up her nose, she starts doing it and I tell her 3 or 4 times no and then I have to shout at her because she's not listening and then she cries hysterically. Yesterday she had sweetcorn witg her dinner and she managed to quickly get 4 bits up her nose! Luckily they were right at the entrance to her nose so could hook them out but after about 20 minutes she started making funny faces and screwing up her nose and she eventually sneezed and a huge piece of corn came flying out! I had no idea it was there I couldn't see it when I looked. What do I do ? I hate shouting at her but even when I'm watching her she does it anyway just quickly. Worried she's going to get sonething really stuck up there x

Hiya hun i have no advice as I haven't experienced it with my DD. I do hope somebody will be along with some advice though. Only thing maybe instead of saying "no" just say something like "we don't put food up our nose" try a different approach it's hard as it's not the best of places for it to go nor to ignore it. Sorry hun I'm not much use

I've got no great words of wisdom in afraid.

Have you tried reinforcing her good behaviour, Ie. Not doing it? So say, good girl for eating nicely, keeping food on plate until eating it, etc.

Just a thought,

Good luck

My lo has done this a few times although he is a bit older than your lo.

Sweet corn, orange peel, orange pips too!

I've just told him not to put things up his nose and he seems to have understood thankfully.

As your lo is younger and may not fully understand, I would go for closer supervision at meal times and praising for eating. Interrupt any attempts at nostril bound foodstuffs, explain that food goes in the mouth not the nose and keep going until she understands.

my little girls went through this at about 2! and it was the good ol corn too......we used to tell her 'no' firmly and then hold the other nostril closed and make her blow the other side to get things out - nothing ever got stuck thankfully, without too much fuss she stopped doing quite quickly.
