I don't know about it dipping 6 days before ovulation. The 6 temps before the luteal phase should be lower than the first luteal phase temp. If you haven't ovulated and had the temp rise then I'm not sure there's anything much to check yet. You may or may not get a temp dip when you ovulate. It's the overall pattern that you are looking for - lower temps before the luteal phase and possibly a dip at ovulation. It should then drop the day of AF. You won't know what are normal temps for you until you've done a whole cycle. My pre-ov temps are in the 35 degree range.
