Finally giving this a go as curious to see when exactly I ovulated in case we just dtd to late or too early (probably neither after ttc so long!)

Am I right in thinking you either take it orally or vaginally? The second sounds gross during af hmmm lol

Is there a guide to temps online somewhere? Like what numbers to look for?
I'm a complete newbie to this!

I'm cd3 so is it too late to start tomorrow morning?

You take it orally, under the tongue with mouth closed. You are looking for a pattern rather than certain numbers. You need to get used to your pre-ovulation temp range and luteal range, and chart so you can see the jump. I chart on paper as well as using apps. You can buy a BBT thermometer in a kit with paper charts on Amazon. It's a good way to get started. Take it after your longest sleep if possible but don't worry if your sleep is all over the place, it should still work.

I did order one from Amazon which arrived today, was it mentioned a while back on a thread here, so hopefully it's good!

I'll give it a go from tomorrow morning then, thanks!

I was going to use an app but I might do it on paper too will see how it goes xx

The basics to temping is as follow;

- You will need a good quality BBT thermometer
- I would advise you to temp vaginally as this method is more accurate
- You will need at least 3hrs of uninterrupted sleep
- Always take your temp at the same time, if this is not possible take the temp when you can and make a note containing the details
- Never "disgard" a temp (just make a note of it - your charting program will automatically disregard once off temps that are out of range when interpreting O)
- Use a good charting program like, FF, Ovagraph, Glow etc. (Ovusense is expensive but state of the art)

When you interpret data you need to remember that you are looking for patterns. Individual temps mean nothing. You will start to see a clear O pattern in a few cycles which will help you to determine whether you ovulate, whether you have defficiencies in estrogen or progesterone, whether your LP is too short, whether you are at risk of miscarriage etc.

See this website for an example --> http://marygynblog.com/5-major-types-of-basal-body-temperature-charts/

Fertility friend has loads of information too :) I'll add if I have forgotten something

GL :dust: :hugs:

Oh ya!

When you take your temp you need to take it before you do anything else, no getting up, no drinking water, no talking ...try and limit your movement as much as possible as this will have an effect on your temp.

I keep my therm under my pillow, my alarm clock is on my cell so I keep that within arms length and mover really slowly.

It's a bit wonky in the beginning but you will get there

Oh also...if you want to rather temp via the mouth you can. Just keep in mind that you can't be a snorer or sleep with your mouth open if you choose to do so else your temps won't be accurate. That's why I chose vaginally, just a bit more reliable - but this is my opinion. There are many women who temp orally and have no problem what so ever. :)

If you want a good book that tells you everything you need to know, Toni Weschler's 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility' is good.

You will notice a pattern . I know my temp is 36.0 pre ovulation...then sometimes I have a temp dip pre ovulation. When ovulation happens it steps up over 2 days or sometimes 3 or 4..nornally 36.4 then 36.6 highest it goes is 36.7 for me...then it dropd down on Cd#2 of af for me. Good luck !

Thanks Sunflower! xx

Thanks Alexis! I'll probably get bored of it after a few cycles but giving anything a go now xx

Okay so this morning I took my temp. Had it right by the bed in arms reach so I didn't have to move and it was 35.43.. now of course I did some reading and this seems to be low compared to the norm.

Will see what it says tomorrow but ughhh I'm already so confused!!!

Mine is usually under 36 degrees before ovulation. I've never had one that low though. Silly question but was it under the tongue with mouth closed?
