I had some bleeding on Friday and a scan on saturday where we saw heartbeat but baby measured small and there was a hematoma. I’ve had two miscarriages and this is exactly what happened at the first which ended up a MMC at the next scan.

My repeat scan isn’t until next Tuesday and I don’t feel I can go into work and act normal with everyone as people don’t know I’m pregnant. I don’t work a mon/tue so would only need to
Self cert for this week.

Is this reasonable or should I just be pulling myself together and going?

Is it possible work might be a helpful distraction for you? I would think you'll just be moping at home and actaully it might be good to go in?

I took yesterday off and i felt better resting. The thought of going into work where I’m running about all day just fills me with dread.

You'll want all the sick leave you can get as the pregnancy progresses so I'd encourage you to go in if you can manage. Conversely, if you miscarry again you'll probably want that leave to stay home and rest.

It’s fine, I’ve spoken to my boss and she totally understands. I’ve alresdy got 3 weeks annual leave in August so if the worst happens I won’t need sick leave. I’m never off sick but I really do believe that people’s mental/emotional state is really important too and just because I physically can go to work doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best thing to do. It’s sorted anyway.

I think you do whatever is best for YOU.

Mental health and emotional stability is so important and should be prioritised as any physical injury or illness would be. It's great your boss is understanding, makes it easier for you, but don't worry about what anyone thinks, just put yourself first and do what you need to do.

Sending lots of positive vibes to you.

xxxx

Your the only one who can make the decision every one deals with things differently. I believe people don’t take into account peoples mental health I went back to work 4 days after my medically managed miscarriage and I should have had longer I realised once it was too late. Take care of yourself don’t worry about anything but you! X

Pregnancy related sickness shouldn’t count as a sick leave. If you feel better being off then go with what you think is best for you and the baby. You two are the most important people to think about. Work will always be there xx

Oh absolutely. Your mental health is just as important as physical health. My job is stressful and I take a lot more mental health sick days than physical ones. I was just meaning if you don't have a lot of leave, try and save as much as you can for late pregnancy. I'm glad you sorted it though. Did you find out how baby is doing yet?

If you don't feel well enough whether physically or mentally to go to work then yes it's reasonable to self cert.

People self cert for head colds so I don't see how this mental anguish is any different

I can see you’ve sorted things with work now, but I just wanted to say, this is what happened to me, and everything turned out completely fine in the end (although lots of bleeding up until 12 weeks) I’m 25 weeks now. So fingers crossed everything is ok for you as well my lovely xxx
