Well 2018 sucks already! Had my baseline tests done for my IVF cycle and they are all rubbish! My cycle in march will be cancelled unfortunately due to the tests.

I have high TSH and Prolactin and also a 3cm cyst that has grown since Feb. I went to the doctors yesterday with my private bloods, she didn’t shed much light and said that she will repeat all tests and scans as they won’t use the ones I have had done within the past week!

I am upset, angry, lost and really don’t know where to turn. I can’t get my head around my thyroid/Prolactin problem, nothing seems to be making sense. Like my head can’t process it, I need to read it in simple words.

Sorry to vent I have throughly had enough of TTC!

Sorry to hear about your issues. What are your TSH and Prolactin values?

I had both high TSH and high prolactin but managed to become pregnant through IVF and now again naturally. TSH can "easily" and safely be treated with thyroxin medication. Just a pill or 2 you have to take daily and causes no side effects.

My doctor told me prolactin is less important when having IVF and is more important when trying naturally ( because very high prolactin can stop your periods ). There is medication for high prolactin as well which can be taken when TTC. I had an MRI for my high prolactin to check for a benign tumor on the Pituitary gland which sometimes causes high prolactin.

Where is your cyst?

Please don't loose hope. I know its hard trust me. When we were all set up for IVF I found out I had lots of polyps and endometrial hyperplasia and had to be on meds for another 6 months before proceeding but we got there in the end. xx

So sorry to hear this :(
Ttc seems never ending

I don't have any experiences with Prolactin or Cysts to share but I didn't want to just read and run

Hoping you can be back on track for ivf soon xx

Hi Maria,

My TSH is 6.08mIU/L and my Prolactin is 1056. I think I have read that these go hand in hand but not sure? My cyst is on my right ovary.

Congratulations on getting there :)

Thank you Millie, I had my heart set on March and now we don’t know. I want to be fixed and hope that being fixed might actually help me conceive noaturally it’s just such a long process with everything xx

Lowering your TSH should absolutely help you conceive naturally since it can affect TTC. High prolactin I believe only affects TTC if you don't get your periods. Have you got regular cycles? Don't think prolactin and TSH are related.

Either way, your values are not crazy as far as I can see. My TSH was about ~4 so slightly lower but as I said if the doctor puts you on Thyroxine ( which they will ) the TSH should drop quickly ( in a couple of weeks or so ) so its 100% fixable. Mine went down to 0.01 at one point!

I had higher prolactin than yours and its still probably over 1000 ( mine was over 1500 at one point which is why they ordered MRI which came back clear ) and went ahead with IVF without lowering it at all. The doctor had no concerns since it doesn't affect the outcome of IVF ( according to doctor ). I think your clinic just want to make sure everything is optimal for success which is good. Means the success rate will be higher.

I know you want this to happen now and you had planned for this and I know how disappointing it is when being told you have to wait. I remember crying my eyes out when the doctor told me my hyperplasia was still there after a hysteroscopy and he wanted to wait and treat me for another 4 months before IVF. But as I said, after all this my body was much more ready for IVF so it worked!

I should hopefully find out more about my thyroid at the end of the month, I am hoping they put me on medication.

I have had a google this afternoon and Prolactin is supposed to stop you ovulating as it’s telling your body your breast feeding altho that said once TSH goes down so should my Prolactin. But then again I don’t really know too much.

I just have to wait it out and see what happens, I guess they will also remove my cyst. I agree I need my body to be as fit as it can be.

Thank you for replying back with all the info, I don’t feel like I have lost all hope now xx

I'm so sorry things are going wrong for you already. It's even worse when you think you finally have a plan.

I don't have any experience of cysts but I did have a high prolactin which was caused by a prolactinoma (benign tumour on the pituitary gland). I was put on medication for it and my levels are now normal. They were high enough to stop me ovulating and I didn't have periods. For me, there was a clear cause and my TSH was and still is normal but I do believe a high prolactin can be linked to high TSH. I know they tested it at the time for me to rule it out as a cause (we weren't technically TTC at that time) before I was sent for the MRI.

Unfortunately we still haven't conceived naturally and will likely be doing IVF this year. As much as I just want to get on with it, I know I would want to feel like my body can give it the best shot so I would want to fix everything I could before then if that makes sense. We have had so many issues and knock backs so I know how frustrating and hopeless it feels.

The TTC boat sucks! I really thought we had everything, my previous baseline tests in Feb were all normal now everyone of them there is something wrong even my AMH has almost halfed but I am guessing that’s to do with my cyst.

Could I ask please what meds you were out on?

I wish you all the luck for your ivf cycle xx

Sorry to hear this CM! I hope it won't delay your IVF plans for too long! :hugs:

I was put on cabergoline. Sorted out my cycles pretty quickly if I recall but still not enough to get pregnant :(
