Does anyone know anything about thyroid levels when ttc?

My GP does not want to give me thyroxine even though my levels are ‘slightly’ high.

I’ve attached a copy of my results, the only result within the reference range is Free T4 and even then that’s very near to outwith the range too.

I am so beyond frustrated. Everything I’m reading says this can affect your fertility but the GP just keeps saying your levels are fine.

Could you ask to be referred to an endocrinologist? I don’t have thyroid issues but they thought I did. I was referred to the endocrinologist and they were fab. Very knowledgable. (I have nodules on my thyroid found by accident all ok) they would be the best people to know of you should be on medications or not. They understand the in’s and outs a lot more than a gp. That’s no offence to gp’s xx

I have a feeling they’ll just say I don’t need to be referred as my levels are fine, they were very dismissive today x

I get that, my doctors are the same but no harm in asking. Plead your case and they do have to consider it. Say your worried about it affecting your fertility. Been trying for x amount of months/years. Xx

Hi rainbow, when I was ttc I was told that levels over 2.5, can affect fertility/cause miscarriage, mine were just over 2.5 and I was put on a low level of thyroxine which bought it down to 1, my next pregnancy was then successful, obviously I can’t be certain it was the thyroid levels that helped but it certainly didn’t hurt. Maybe find a few articles online about levels below 2.5 for ttc and show your dr?

Even if they won’t refer you to a specialist you’re entitled to a second opinion so I’d ask for that xx

Thanks everyone, I emailed them to my miscarriage specialist and she had an endocrinologist look at them. She’s drafting me a letter for my GP advising TSH should be under 2.5 and recommending I’m started on 50mcg levothyroxine x

That is great news! GPs can’t be expected to know everything, they know a little about a lot but sometimes it’s just worth having a specialist look at these things.

I hope this helps you get your rainbow x

Ah no, are you hyper or hypo? Least you found out now and it's sorted with medication.

I hate having an under active thyroid. Plus side is consultant will monitor you when pregnant and afterwards so gp won't deal with you.

The GP specifically said I’m neither but I think she’s wrong. I think it’s Underactive x

Under is the hypo, so with me I struggle to lose weight, my cycles are very long, hairs fine and I was really tired constantly.

I'm not sure if It made a difference to conceiving, as I'm under investigation for endometriosis right now. But they take care of you a little more during pregnancy.

Hopefully it'll make you feel alot better and your mind at ease now it's sorted x

My hairs fine too, always tired, sensitive to cold. I have the medication but don’t really feel ‘looked after’ x

Oh yeah that's how they got me I was freezing and falling asleep constantly lol.

Can you change DR? or when you book ask to see a male? I'd personally try to avoid her, you get Dr's with different opinions and maybe she's just being hard work as another has told her she is wrong x
