Hiya my name is Emma.
Today I found out I was pregnant.:))
(Very early days)
I have not told anyone apart from my b.f. So it's good to be able to offload on here.
I was diagnosed with an incompetant cervix in 2006 after loosing our son at 24 weeks.
In 2008 I became preg again and had the stitch put in at 12 weeks...I was also travelling to professor Shennan at the UCL to get my cervix measured and at 21 weeks he discoverered I was just about holding the baby on the stitch and advised high levels of progesterone and bed rest so for 10weeks I lay down and luckily it worked because I had a healthy baby boy at 34wks. :))
In the 6 years since my son was born I managed to slip my disc in two places and now on heavy pain relief. I am on gaberpentin and tramadol. I am very concerned about the effect this will have on the baby and am going to see the Dr Moro,to see about coming off it all.
Has anyone else experienced weening off drugs in pregnancy?
Has incompetent cervix procedures improved? In 2008 when I was preg with my son,the only forum was in the usa,so it's fab to have a uk based one.
Was also wondering do most hospitals now measure the cervix because in 2008 I had to travel to London to get it done! I thank my lucky stars for professor shennan who advised bed rest and progesterone,I belive he saved my sons life and stopped another tragic loss. He was pioneering in 2008 I wonder if now all hospitals do it?
Thank you for listening
Emma

My friend had her cervix measured every week until her stitch at 14 weeks, and she got that done at our local hospital in Newcastle. I think she had 2 weeks bed rest then carried on as normal until she got to 36 weeks when the stitch was removed and she had her baby. She had this stitch 4 times, which I think was the maximum she was allowed to do it. She had her first one in 2005, and her last in 2011 so I'm guessing nothing has changed since yours!

That's reassuring. I never knew that you could get your cervix measured so early on in pregnancy. I will ask my dr about this Moro.my cervix is weak....that's why I was only holding on the stitch at 21wks in my last pregnancy.. Does anyone know if they can put two stitches in or something else to strengthen it?
Cheers

The first stitch my friend had she got measured early as she got to 16 weeks before they decided it needed to go in. The others all went in at 14 weeks. One of them was put in so tight, they had problems getting it out again! Lol! Maybe they can double stitch! Lol!
