Names, what a nightmare. Me and hubby hardly agree on anything! So far Joseph is our favourite, although I'm not sure how I feel about joe/ Joey which it would end up being shortened to. We also like Charlie, although I can sense hubby wavering on that one already. Our surname is Ponting.

Be honest :) x

My eldest nephew is a Charlie!

I love it, prefer it to Joseph

xxxx

I like both - I think Joseph goes really well with your surname, but can see your point about it being shortened against your will (tho I like joe too) - it won't necessarily be shortened - if you teach him that's his name the majority of people will call him what you/he introduces as

I know but I would feel like a naggy mum, telling everyone off for shortening his name lol x x x

I like Joseph, Charlie seems more of a dog name to me and my mum says a Charlie boy was a nickname for gay boy (not that there is anything wrong with that of course) but it put me off. Also where im from a Charlie is house brick lol x

I like both, I really wanted Joseph but my oh wouldn't agree xxx

I love the name Charlie - it's defo on my list! I'm the complete opposite of you and prefer Joe/Joey to Joseph, but as with anything if you teach him (and everyone else) to call him Joseph, that's what he'll get called. I have a friend called Thomas, and it wouldn't seem right calling him Tom!

I'm not sure about the theory that if you teach him/other people that his name is Joseph, that's what people will call him. Nicknames aren't always within your control - I know a Matthew/Matt, a James/Jim and a Thomas/Tom (all my cousins) whose parents all tried to stop everyone from shortening, but somehow it just kind of happened...

I'm sure it must be easier to control when they're young, but not sure how much of a say you have when they're older. Depends how against the shortened version you are I suppose. I prefer Joseph to Charlie, but only because the only Charlie I knew growing up has put me off the name.

Saying that my bils are stig and bam - steven and david so nothing to do with there names! x

I prefer joseph, really not keen on Charlie tbh x

I was born Joanna I get everything from jo to jojo to Joey to Jodie to Josie to Anna to Annie lol

My mum always calls me Joanna because to her that's my name. I go through phases of liking jo and if liking Joanna.

I'm not a lover of Charlie but I do like Joseph. Ofc its a family name
