Well this morning I had my appointment with the consultant to book a date for the cesarean and it didn't really go as well as I expected!

She tried to persuade me to have the ECV done but I said I don't want it because of the risks to baby and there is only a 30% chance it would work anyway so then she started getting a bit nasty and said that cesareans are the biggest cause of death in women and she said if I have the c section then I will get blood clots on my lungs and die!
I told her they were all risks to me where as the ECV is all risks to the baby and then she said that now days it's common that doctors cause injury to the baby while performing the C section so either way the baby is at risk! Then she said I can have the cesarean on the 3rd sept and I'm due on the 7th I told her that the midwife said me and the baby could both die if I have a natural birth and could I have it done at least a few days before the 3rd in case I go into labour naturally but she said no. She started getting nasty so I said well in that case I will do something to bring on labour myself and she said oh right so how are you going to do that in the end I just grabbed my maternity notes and stormed out leaving my mum in the room and the doctor said to my mum "oh well she hasn't been booked in yet"
So basically I haven't got a date for the cesarean it looks like I will have to wait to go into labour naturally and have an emergancy c section. I'm on my own now been left in limbo not knowing what is going to happen to me or my baby!

You need to phone your consultants boss, ring the hospital reception and ask for his/her name and number and complain! Today! I don't know your story but if it is dangerous for you to have a vaginal birth then you mustn't take the chance of going into labour naturally just in case things happen very quickly. You are quite within your rights to demand a second opinion.

Good luck honey

Alfie

you are within your rights to refuse the ECV. I don't think I would have had it done either.

If having a planned section, I'm pretty sure it should be at least a week before your due date, ie. 39 weeks or before.

I would demand a second opinion. I wouldn't wait to go into labour and rely on an emergency section if I were you. Stand your ground, they' have no right to make decisions for you.

I'm sure there are loads of other mums on here who had planned sections, ask when they had theirs and for what reason. No-one has one so close to their due date.

As soon as we got back my mum phoned the complaints department at the hospital because I was crying to much to do it myself and she said that she would get the head midwife to ring me because I can't just be left like this but she still hasn't rang. I tried phoning again and spoke to the head midwifes secetary and she said she is really tied up and wil try and ring me today but she can't garuntee that I will get to speak to her today.
The doctor I saw today was a locum consultant so she doesn't even belong to the hospital.
The woman at the complaints department said I have to ring back when I have been sorted out so sheisn't even putting the complaint through yet!!

That is absolutely disgusting!!! How bloody unprofessional

Complain sweetheart and do it today, while you are still fired up.

That's no way to treat anyone - let alone a pregnant woman

Oops - our posts must have crossed there! lol - good for you making the phonecall - good luck with it too

She also wanted to send me for yet another scan to check the baby is still breech even though she felt for herself that she is the wrong way round. I only had a scan on monday to check her posistion but she wanted me to have the scan on the 27th and after that I will have to go back to have all that pre clerking stuff before the op so I don't know how she expects all that to be done in time!
It's stupid I just don't know what I am supposed to do now.

OMG! Thats real bad Vicky!

You MUST demand a second opinion, asap! You dont want to rely on emergency just incase there a a dozen other emergencys going on at the same time!

I can't believe they can be so F**King rude to you!

OOOh, give me the number - i want to have a go at them myself!

My section is bang on 39 weeks - so you should be the same at least - if not before!

Big

Hi Vickyleigh - sorry you've had such a crap time. It's really important that you get this sorted out as quickly as possible - if you're not getting though to the right person at the hospital can't you call your GP or Community Midwife for advice? They may be able to help and make the right calls for you.
My sister had a baby that was double breech (bum first) and it wasn't a pleasant labour - I won't go into it but it did end up in an emergency C-Section once they actually listened and believed it wasn't her head that was down.
Finally - calm yourself down because getting yourself all worried and upset won't help you or baby. Keep us updated and we'll keep our fingers crossed you get it sorted soon xx

Hi Vicky,
Have come into town so popped into internet cafe to see whats going on. I'm absolutely disgusted with how you have been treated  How could that woman be so bloody rude! :x
I hope you get your section date soon and get this all sorted out.
Thinking of you hunny

im so sorry you have been treated soo badly thats disgusting. i agree with other posts you need to complain and demand a second opinion you are well within your rights.

keep pestering them and make sure you get what you want, you have every right to refuse ecv and they shouldnt make you feel like that. you are likely to see another consultant if she is a locum, they are rubbish!!

hope it sorted and quickly! not sure what others think but im sure for breech babies c-sections are normally done between 38-39 weeks and no later.

Blimey

Can't get over that! Really hope you get somewhere and get a date, you will just have to keep ringing till you get somewhere its the only way i guess, and as everyone has said try and keep calm, hard i know but you must

I rang my normal midwife who deals with me but she was busy with a patient and was supposed to ring me back but that was over an hour ago and she hasn't rang back. Surely she can't still be with the same patient! This really is turning out to be a nightmare I haven't even been able to speak to anyone at all because they are too 'busy'
I've tried complaining, tried speaking to the head midwife at the hospital a couple of times, tried to ring the midwife at the hospital who refered me to the consultant, tried ringing my own midwife but I can't get through to anyone!
I know I can't just wait around for them to do something but what am I supposed to do if I can't get hold of anyone.
And all because I refused to put my baby at risk!

Hope you get something sorted. Its disgusting speaking to you like that

hey hun,

Just read your post, and found it absolutely disgusting what was said to you. I would definately put a serious complaint in and ask to see someone else about things.

So sorry you didnt get the answers you wanted.

Love amz xxx

:shakehead:  No Comment :shakehead:

Not often I am left speechless........ this it totally disgusting unprofessional behaviour!

You stick to your guns Vicky! Lv Yvonne xx

Good on you for walking out and not taking any crap!
Hope someone gets in touch with you soon to sort your C section.
xxxxx

OMG thats bloody awful you poor poor thing

I hope you soon get sorted hun and i would deffo put in a complaint, dont let them get away with it

Hi hun I really think the way that consultant spoke to you is dreadful and I hope you do continue with your complaint. But please don't get too disheartened as this is your first baby if you do go into labour they will still have plenty of time to do a c-section.

My sister's second baby was breach feet first (I think) anyway they let her go 5 days over her due date to give her time to turn her baby, not with ECV just trying to lie, sit in different positions using ice etc. anyway she didn't turn so they did a c-section and all was absolutely fine with my sister and neice. .

I'm so sorry to hear how you were treated  Could I ask why you have to have a c-section? I remember seeing a consultant when I wanted my homebirth, and some of the scare tactics he used were disgusting, like ANY Mummy would do ANYTHING to put their LO in danger, it's down right criminal they can talk to you like that :x I do hope you're feeling OK now and everything works out for you and your LO
