My due date was 27th May 2014 and it came and went with no signs of anything happening in the near future! I had a sweep at 41w on 3rd June which did nothing at all, a second sweep on Thursday 5th June and if all else failed was booked in for induction on 10th June. After second sweep had as few tightenings but nothing materialised
At 1:15am on Saturday 7th June I woke up with pains so started timing then on my phone. They were coming every seven minutes and lasting about a minute. My oh was snoring away next to me but I thought this could be a false alarm or take ages to get going so left him to sleep. At about 7:30am I decided best to call MLBU so woke up oh and phoned. They said to have a warm bath and take to paracetamol. I asked when I should come in and they said every woman is different so couldn't tell me but they were on the end of the phone should I need them.
By 8am oh was up and worrying about me and the pains were five mins apart. I stood up to get out of the bath and my bloody show came out - it was really rank! He called them up and they insisted on speaking to me. I said I wanted to come in so they said to go delivery suite as mlbu were full. Got to delivery suite by about 9am, they examined me and I was 1cm
they gave me painkillers and sent me home.
Went home and chilled out and tried to sleep. Pains got really irregular - upto 20 mins apart so I'd just decided this must be a false start when at 16:45 gush!! My waters broke which sped up the contractions! Got to hospital, shown to a room and were told we weren't going home until we'd had our baby!! Yay! Was now 2-3cm.
Labour was slow and quite painful, I seemed inbetween very calm and completely insane. At one point I was just screaming! It's almost like an outer body experience as you cannot control what you're doing!
I got in the pool which really helped and was in there for a few hours. At about 4am I was getting loads of pressure so we thought it may almost be time (my mw didn't agree with examining unnecessarily) (?) so kept refusing. I was really proud of myself, thought I was nearly there and when nothing happened she checked and it was 4cm. At this point I was devastated. I was so tired and so in pain that I felt I couldn't go on. I took loads of gas and air which made me sleep inbetween contractions. I was checked again a couple of hours later and was 8cm! Woop!!
This is where it all becomes a bit of a blur... Hours passed and I didn't progress and there were concerns about the position of the baby, heart deceleration and my contractions not being strong enough (felt strong enough to me!! So I was put on a hormone drip) I was still getting really painful pressure and was exhausted and not sure how I'd ever get baby out.
At 2pm they checked me again and still no progress so the (very lovely) dr was called. He checked and looked worried. He asked if I was happy to have a Caesarian to which I said 'definitely' and we were rushed to theatre.
Iris was born at 2:35pm weighing 8lb 3oz. I then lost a lot of blood (2.5l) and was on the table for another hour whilst they sorted me out. They said if I'd had a vaginal birth it would have been very serious as there wouldn't have been a dr there like there is at a Caesarian.
Anyhow, we're both fine and were discharged from hospital last night. I'm not very mobile and extremely tired but oh has been amazing! I certainly don't plan on having another baby anytime soon but she is just perfect!
