After the initial refferal my partner has been prescribed clomid, had took 5 months from the original doctors appointment.

She had to have her tubes check for blockages which were both fine.

I've learnt a few things so far, the main one being that you have to persist, specially at the first appointment at the doctors. Before we were reffered we were told by 2 different doctors that it will happen eventually (even after trying for over a year)

At the second appointment she was prescribed the clomid and told to start taking it on the 2nd day of her cycle. Straight away the very irregular periods sometimes 6 month apart was brought up which resulted in being prescribed tablets to induce a cycle.

I'm hoping this won't be needed every time as the clomid will make the cycles normal but I haven't found a definitive answer to that yet iand I guess everyone's different.

The biggest thing for me is the uncertainty of if it ever will happen.

Does anyone know if the clomid will regulate irregular cycles due to PCOS?

Hi andy.

If you pop onto the long term section there is a clomid thread where all the current clomid ladies are hanging out.

I've done 7 rounds of clomid, I also have pcos and very irregular periods. I also had to take pills to induce the initial bleed to start taking clomid. I did ovulate on clomid, if you partner does ovulate then she will (hopefully) conceive or if not she should have a bleed by herself. I didn't need a bleed inducing once I had started the clomid.

Is she having follicle tracking scans? I highly recommend that she does, then you can check the dose is correct and that there is actually an egg there, if you can't get the scans on the NHS I think it is worth paying privately to know if it is working for you. My local private scanning place charges £180 for tracking scans, as many as you need for a cycle. She should also be getting a blood test 7 days after ovulation. This is really important that she goes on the correct day, some doctors say day 21 but this is only if you have a textbook cycle and ovulate on day 14. On clomid I ovulated between day 17 and day 24, so day 21 tests would have been totally useless for me. The tracking scans will help you know when ovulation is and I also did ovulation tests and took my temperature to confirm ovulation happened.

I started on 100mg clomid and did ovulate one egg on this. I did 6 cycles on 100mg and one on 125mg. On 125 I ovulated two eggs and I'm now pregnant after one of those fertilised.

Don't be too disheartened if it doesn't work first time, some ladies need to experiment to get the correct dose and others won't respond to clomid at all and may need to try a different medication. Good luck!

I'm not sure about follicle scans as I don't think that was mentioned but they did say to let them know when AF shows so they can take blood to see if she ovulated after taking the clomid 50mg

I'm usually asking loads of questions but by the time she came back with the prescription there was another couple in the small waiting room so I didn't ask.

According to the stats 30% chance of it working after 6 months, I've read a lot of stuff online with people saying it has worked for them after years of not trying.. I'm someone that is optimistic and will build my hopes up when I should wait and see.
