The Ipswich killings

free univeraity degrees too so when they get out which they all do they get better jobs earn more money, no justice in anything anymore is there

mummykay - totally agree with you regarding the human rights thing... you loose your human rights once you commit a crime like this... the offenders were not thinking about the victims human rights when they commit the offence...

as for the death penalty - well this is always going to be a dodgy subject as there have been so many people proved innocent after being in jail for years.. how could you 100% prove they were guilty for a crime?

I agree with most people on here saying that fewer people should be sent to jail for petty crimes ( insurance issues and TV licences and stuff) and the prisons should be stricter and more regimented with less priveledges and maybe that would become a deterent for some people... you will always get the sick ones though who will commit horrendous crimes and not be interested in the consequences only the "buzz" of it.. also there are the mentally ill to consider.. many inside are classed as mentally ill so should they be accountable for their actions if they are "unwell"??? Many people think not..........

Great topic btw! I love hearing other people's point of view on things like this!

University degrees aren't really what the majority achieve. Alot of these prisoners have no qualifications whatsoever for a number of reasons. Basic skills deficits are also really common. So they can use their time inside to get some qualifications i.e. GCSE's etc so they can find it easier to get work when they come out. Employment reduces the rate of recidivism, so it surely can only be a good thing that they are being helped to find work.

I was gonna keep out of this debate because of what happened to my best friend, it has been upsetting, but after this 16 yr old little bas***d beat my soulmate to death (and we don't know what the reason was), i too disagree with the death penalty. I think the family(s) of the victim(s) should be allowed to meet with these demons and be allowed to inflict whatever pain, whether it be emotional or psysical, on them. Prison is nothing, this CHILD is in a detention centre now, playing x-box and pool, while my 7 year old godaughter is facing xmas without her mommy. Death is too good to them, just an easy way out. They should be tortured mentally. Rub photos of the victims body and children in their faces, have them tattooed on their brains so its all they see. And for the rapists and peodos, allow them to now be left with each other, their frustration would soon be taken out on each other.
Until you are in the situatuion where one of your own has been murdered/raped, you really don't know how you would feel. I'm sorry if i have upset anyone with my opinions, but this is a person affected by murder talking.

Im so sorry to hear what happened

I think its people like yourself, who have been touched by this kind of crime, that should be heard when it comes to what happens to the criminals.

I agree that death seems to easy for them and they should be made to suffer and live with what they have done - a guilty conscience will get everyone in the end, and putting someone to death before they have had a chance to relive thier crime and feel guilt and regret, and have to live with themselves, well it seems like a cop out to me.

I dont agree with death penilty either, a friend of mine was murdered in aug of this yr by a 24 yr old male he raped, beat her and then strangled her he was then found the very next day in alton towers, we dont know why he did it either! To be killed himself would be nothing he would know nothin of it once he'd gone!!
I know how ur feelin claire its the most awful thing to have to come to terms with!

Sophie i am so sorry you too are going through this, its just awful. Thankfully my friend wasn't raped, but we don't know if it was attempted rape, it may not even go to trial cuz he keeps f***ing about with his plea. The only consolation i can offer you is hopefully he tortured himself to death?? I think they are such cowards, if they are man enough to do the crime, they should then be man enough to take the punishment.
Also they shouldn't be treated as minors, if you can buy cigarettes, leave school and have sex at 16, and if you can beat a lady to death at 16, you should be treated as an adult.
My heart goes out to you Sophie and your friends family, all we can hope is that our friends have gone to a better place now xx

hugs for u girls who have lost somebody thru pure evil and stupidity

2people i know have been murdered, they were my age and so were the boys who killed them. i was even friends with one of the killers. but after they did that i dont think prison is a gd enough punishment because it ISNT a punishment.

if they were hung/had lethal injection/had electric chair i wouldnt bat an eyelid purely for the fact i dont believe they deserve to live, society is a much better place without them.
