The price of food has gone up hugely...................we were warned last year that it would, but even so :x

Yes, I've definitely noticed this. Our weekly bill has jumped from about £100 to £140. I only commented on this to OH yesterday. Does anyone else think that Tesco own brand food has gone down the tubes lately as well? The quality is really not as good as it was, very noticeable.

Yeah! Its suddenly gone skyhigh in their. Ive been going to asda instead the last week and saving a few pennies.

Actually we've noticed ours is lower. Its because we are buying more fresh stuff and less processed and frozen food. I've recently started making my own chips and wedges, we make our own curries (we get the stuff from the "weird aisle" as we call it, where they sell all the unusual stuff :) we also make our own pasta sauce etc so now I just buy fresh veg, fruit, dairy and bread, pita bread etc and just a fraction of the packets, jars and tins we used to buy then the rest is just ingredients.

Plus we are mainly vegetarian so we don't have the cost of meat added to our shopping although we do have fresh salmon once a week which is quite expensive but for once a week its not too bad :)

Oh and lastly we have changed our cat to dry complete food, its way cheaper and theres absolutely no waste. I used to spend a small fortune on pouches which more often that not ended up in the bin anyway

I usually shop at Morrisons but they don't have any kind of trolley I can put Abigail into :x

Just started going to Tesco and  there is a HUGE difference

yep me to did the shoping with tesco on line last night and its came to £61.30 inc delivery

it was only baby bits....food..milk...wipes and a few basics like sugar floor wipes..polish...cereal..etc...

im so shocked....we live inbetween asda and tesco but OH's parents are away this wekk so dont have a baby sitter to nip out shopping in the evening might try asda next week will buy the same things and compaire

Yeah, I noticed a brand of bread we always used to buy that we used to pay about 85p for was £1.23 the other day at Tescos. I just bought the Tescos own cos I refuse to pay that much for a loaf of bread. The Tescos own nappies have gone up in price too since they changed them. I think they cost about 16p a nappy now where they used to be about 11p. I stick to Pampers now, they work out cheaper.

Thats why I do it online! If I go to the supermarket to do my shopping it's about £80 whereas if I do it online I spend around £50

Wheat has gone up in price, last summer was a disaster for farming as it was so wet. There is then a knock on effect as it then affects the price of produce farmers use to feed their livestock etc, so milk goes up, then fresh meat....

If companies who produce goods have to pay more and ship in from elsewhere, then the cost is passed on to the consumer.

If you believe in global warming and its effects, then this situation is continually going to get worse and alter as adverse weather and conditions play their part on crops and livestock.

I've taken to making my own bread as it works out cheaper. I cook it along with some other stuff in the oven so its not just baking the one thing. Even for a total novice, something as simple as soda bread is easy to make, SR wholemeal flour, plain flour and buttermilk and 30 minutes in the oven. Sorted.

Also like lou, we buy a lot of fresh produce and make our own food over prepacked and processed. It does work out cheaper on the wallet, but it usually means I buy and cook lots of meals and freeze them. Not something everyone has time for each week.

I also grow some of my own veg, potatoes are easy to do in a pot in early summer and give a great crop. Same with other root veggies. Fun to do and kids can get involved also. Fresh out the ground carrots and spuds are yummy.

We also keep our own chickens as pets, also for eggs and meat so are saving money in that area also. Free range organic chicken and eggs at a reasonable cost to us.

We've raised pigs also for pork in the past. Best sausuages I've ever eaten were our own homemade ones. And the quality of the meat was wonderful.

hubby was moaning yesterday about this as in a week the price of a carton of custard has gone up 13p which we think is a huge hike in price a couple pennies is ok but not 13p also mushrooms have gone up 7p
lol how sad are we knowing the price of everything!!!
sommerfield has gone up to aswell as that is where we normaly do our weekly shop as its nearest
