Hi ladies,

I've just been booked in for my csec and know about the no mkaeup/nailvarnish/falsies rule, but it says nothing about fake tan?

Anyone know if this is okay or if I should start to 'pale off'??! It's obvs not a question I really want to bother my midwife with; am sure she has real problems to be helping women with rather than my stupid vanity ones!!

Thanks,

Lou xx

Lou I asked this very same question! Haha. I wanted to get my hair, nails and tan done for birth just to make myself feel better for before and after. Bit of a pick me up! I haven't got a section date as yet as they are hoping baby grows / turns soon before ( 36 weeks so not much time!!!) anyhuw they said I could fake tan however reason for nailpolish is they check nails apparently for signs your ok during operation, also your skin colour ... So if you go pale / grey etc they can spot it quick! So for this reason I'm going to go without.

But my midwife said it is a personal choice , safety first ( which I took as her saying eeeeeerrr no!) x

You can have fake tan on in theatre... I don't know exactly about c section but ive worked in theatres before and there's never been a problem with fake tan, they've even taken women in with false nails on (don't do that though as it's hard to get an accurateO2 reading when you have them on) get your tan on, no one wants a lilly white butt ;) lol xxx

I would imagine its probably not the best idea same as nail varnish etc I have images of me having tan on and sweating and looking a drippy mess. More of a mess than I probably will already be lol think if professionals like your midwife say its not a problem id just go with that lol x

I am a surgical nurse and have never known it be a problem except, if your surgery is elective you will be asked to bath/ shower in something called hibi-scrub (presuming all hospitals have the same policy) and that will wash off the tan I would have thought and they will 'clean' the site before they start surgery which is using alcohol or inadine which will also wash off any tan so you may be left with a white area around the surgical site. Xx

I didn't think to take my false nails off when I went in to be induced in fact it never entered my head that I could possibly have to have a section I naively went threw the belief that I would deliver naturally! But the little monkey started to decide to have other ideas & gave us all a scare as I was prepared for emergency c-section but in the end I was so thankful when I didn't need to have one. The Mw did say I was fine to wear them as I didn't have polish on them, I can just imagine what it would have been like if I had to get them off & that thought did enter my head as they were getting me ready

Thanks girls! I might just stick with some on the face and chest so I don't look like Casper the ghost like I did last time..... :) xx

I was going to say that they will clean your belly before the op anyway so it will come off! Personally fake tan was the last thing on my mind!!

Fake tan will be fine. I had nail varnish on for my emergency one ( natural v short nails tho) but all the others had removed it as elective. Ive been taking more care of my feet as im alway in black flip flops and where my feet skin has got drier i serm to be getting black feet bottoms by end of day! Can't imagine the looks when theatre staff see them if i have energency one again and get caught out ha ! I hadn't washed hair last time or bathed as id just run one on the sunday morning when i suddenly bled everywhere, i decided not to get in it and go to hosp, god my hair was a right state in the photos!!

Oh JJ that sounds horrible! Poor thing.... But yes, the pics of me with my lo last time are so horrible (I lost so much blood I look horrendous and swollen) that rather than anyone saying 'aww look at your baby' when they see the pics they all immediately say 'bloody hell, you look like death'. It really upset me for ages. Would love this time to have a photo where people don't even notice me and see my baby!!

Oh yourll be fab with an elective section yourll be fine. I do wear cover makeup each time, im so pale you don't nottice! Just skip the lippy ;) wash and dry hair, I have dyed mine the night before 4 out of 5 times and it makes it thicker and manageable for several days , màkes me feel nicer too. Don't forget to pack your basic makeup bag for easy grabbing after make sure a small mirror in there as you wont be able to get out of bed for 2-3 hours or so)

I really want to glam up for the birth this time lol. I'm high risk for a section though so I'm glad this was asked!

I had bell's palsy when I gave birth to my second baby and in all honesty I hate most of my first pictures with him because of how my face looks. It's not even anything make up could have hidden! But at the same time I'm glad my OH took them and I have them to look at even if I don't show them to anyone else.
