So when I had ds, my waters broke at home. Went in and was 4cms dilated and admutted to my own room in birthing centre. How does the labour ward compare? If u get admitted do u go on to a ward or get your own room straight away? Just wondering xd

I was the same but sadly got transferred from my lovely room in the birthing centre.

As I was 7cm I didn't go to a ward I went straight to a delivery suite. It was very medicinal (lots of machinery that wasn't in the Birthing centre room). Room was massive though, I had my own loo as well.

As I felt so comfortable in the Birthing Centre I was gutted to end up in this cold and clinical room but it was clean, fully stocked with everything I needed (I was on the drip and having fluid via IV and baby ended up having clip on his head and was on a trace) and it had plenty of room for more staff had I needed any interventions.

Thanks hun. Same here, I got transfered out too after being in birthing centre too long lol. We paid for a private room after my c section. I just wonder which bits of ur care r u in a shared ward for and which bits u get a private room for lol I like my own space but not paying this time too expensive .; (

with my son I was in the hospital 2 days before they induced me due to high BP - and i stayed on the ward until I was 5cm dilated! unfortunately I was labouring quite painfully in a ward with 7 other ladies during the night - trying to be quiet :(

ward was ok, you had privacy only by curtains, and there was a tv room and when meals came round they just bring a trolly into the middle of the ward and you have to come over and get what you want and can either sit at a table or on your bed or chair next to your bed.

with my daughter we were in a new area, and I never got to see their wards as by the time I came in to be assessed i was ready for a delivery room.

The ward they put me on afterwards was horrendous.

MIL is a nurse at the hospital we had bub and said it was a 'pop up' ward as they were so busy.

The maternity wing is only less than 5 years old and I actually know a surveyor who was part of the design team (met her recently). She confirmed that 'pop up' wards were designed for low risk mothers when the hospital was busy.

This "ward" didn't have windows

There was also a bin and public sink at the edge of 'my' curtain so often a randon pair of hands would pop in and wash themselves

My sister and SIL have had babies in this same hospital and ended up on a proper ward which was fine!!

This was the downside of choosing a world renowned hospital with excellent facilities I suppose....
