What teething gel is best to use? I can't believe i am asking this already as it seems so early but i am pretty confident that my LO is teething he is showing all the signs. I know about bonjela & i've just seen one called dentinox just wondering which one is the best. Also i've seen toys designed esp to use as teethers are these any good? My LO still isn't at that stage where he holds things & isn't intrested in the toys he has at the moment so would a teething toy but useless? I have got him a sofie the giraffee which are meant to ge good but i want the fawn version instead so waiting on that to be delivered so just wanting something cheap & cheerful in the meantime

Personally I always preferred teething powder over gel, but it's really a case of trial and error. Ambesol (sp?) liquid is really good too x

I used dentenox gel. But found the teething powder settled him a lot better. I used nelsons teething one ! Also can't recommend sophie giraffe enough. He's 16 months now and luckily we have nearly a full set of teeth !! X

Another fan of Sophie here too!!

Anbesol gel was the best gel I found. I even use it on mouth ulcers now instead of grown up Bonjela it's that good. Aston and Parsons is the best powder in my opinion.

We also got a set of jelly keys that could be kept in the fridge to cool them. I think they were by nuby and I got them from boots for about a fiver.

Thanks everyone the powders we can't use yet until he is 3 months old but spoken with a pharmacist would said calpol would be okay to use.

Littlemonkey i was just in Boots as well could have hunted those keys out whilst im waiting for fan fan the fawn to arrive (its sophie the girafee cousin)

I'm not being stupid though am i because even the pharmacist said it was a little early for teeth which i know it is but all the signs are there & i'm following my gut instinct with this one.

My LO has been the same since he was six weeks old. I've been told that some babies start teething as soon as they are born, it's likely you LO has teeth moving around in his gums which are getting ready to come up. Mine is now 16 weeks a we have buckets of drool, constant fists in mouth (or anything he can fit it!), the odd yucky nappy, red cheeks and chin, the odd few spots on his bum. I've heard the granules are very good but we are just coping with calpol (when I can get it in!) and Sophie the giraffe.

My little boy was a early teether ! 16 months now and has almost a full set of teeth. He's already got 4 back teeth aswell. All baby's are deffo. I'm quite glad he's almost done tho as I'm 37weeks pregnant and dobt fancy having 2 teething babies lol x

Ive found the teether little monkey mentioned but ive found a munchkin one that vibrators & is suitable from birth which one do i go for?

Can't advise on on the vibrating one, but it sounds good.

My youngest is five weeks and has teeth visible in his gums since he was born. Every baby is different and they all teeth at different times.

This is the link to the teether it's £2 cheaper in tesco but i think it looks good for what i want it for & it can be used from birth & has a few different uses! I'm not sure how he will get on with it though as at the mintue he can't grip things & i don't think this 1 can go into the fridge sadly which the other one can as doesn't that have an advantage for their gums? I don't want to be buying anymore teethers as i've got fan fan the fawn coming & now this & the other 1 would mean over £20 on teethers which is a tad excessive right?

The pharamacist gave me that gel little moneky but it's bloody expensive isn't it?! Lol! Watch it won't make a difference to him & i am hoping that she gave me the best one to use for his gums as opposed the most expensive or i'll be a bit peeved! I know what works for one doesn't for another but i don't want to be wasting 2 much money if i can help it as that money could be better spent for him (i'm the only one providing for him financially so got to watch every penny) wish i could get it right or take this pain away for him! She also said she didn't recommend calpol as he was too young!? It says on the box 2 months + & my little boy is 10 weeks so... I got it for when he had his jabs & i'm glad i did as he developed a fever after them so i needed to use it i wouldn't use it if i didn't need to but when your baby is screaming in discomfort what else am i meant to do?! The box also says it can be used for teething so should i have just stayed with the calpol or will this gel be enough? Can tell i'm a first time mom! I have messaged my HV for her advice & i am going to my baby cafe tomorrow so will ask the lovely hv there that helped get his toungue tie sorted out if she is there!

Personally I don't think you could ever have enough teethers, but my eldest was forever putting things in his mouth and chewing them. He still does it now. Think he takes after me because I'm always chewing pens etc.

It's all a bit trial and error with what to give them for teething. I tended to start off with gel, then give the powder if he was really grumpy with it and save calpol and nurofen (can't have this until 3 months) for the really bad occasions, especially as night if it was disturbing his sleep. They can only have so many doses of calpol in 24 hours, so it's best to save it for when they really need it in my opinion.

If you're worried about the costs of stuff, there's a scheme you can sign up to where you can get stuff like calpol, teething gels etc for free. I can't remember the name, I'll try to find a link now.

It's the NHS minor ailments scheme. It doesn't let you get stuff for free willy nilly, but you can get teething treatments for free on it.

I think I may try my doctors tomorrow the receptionist are a lot nicer & better at helping me than the doctor so I'll see if they can ask him if he can give me anything for it. I've just opened the bottle & my goodness it's a small bottle but it should last a long time hopefully as you only need to apply the once which I think is brill. Hopefully it will be worth the money but it would be even better if I could get it for free either via the doctors or the scheme you mentioned.

I would never use the calpol unless I really felt he needed it but when he gets going he really screams the place down so how will I know if I need to give calpol?

It's if he will use them that's all as he still can't hold things at the moment so do I just hold it in his mouth for him? I thought maybe one or even 2 would be more than enough teethers for him? How often do I need to sterilise them I am a bit OCD when it comes to this though & my little boy hates the taste of Milton! I'm now having to sterilise his soothers in a microwaveable steamer than my mom got for him before he was born as he really doesn't like the taste of Milton & I find after a while it discoloured the soothers :/
