Hi ladies, started weaning lo a few weeks ago because I was told it would help colic. Initially started with a bit of porridge at 11am, so far so good. did this for 2 weeks, then I introduced purée carrot and purée parsnip again at 11 am in case of a reaction and switched the porridge to 6pm, again all good. After her taking to this basic veg, I tried apple at 11 am instead of the veg, again good and lo loves apple. After no adverse reaction gave porridge in the morning and either apple, carrot, parsnip in the evening. Lo likes apple so much if it's not apple she gets she cries. I don't want to encourage a fussy eater but don't want to take a backward step weaning either. I do persevere and encourage her as much as I can, and also tried banana which she's had twice and a tiny bit of cabbage to the apple and she hates potato. what do I do? I've had the apple on standby because of the tears but lo can't just eat porridge and apple surely? What do you suggest? x

It's probably just a phase so I wouldn't worry.
My son was exactly the same with Apple, for a while it was the only thing he'd really eat. I started to add other flavours like carrot and potato, at first just small amounts so that the main taste was still Apple and slowly reduced the amount of apple going in until eventually there is none. It may take some time but it worked for us and now we have a little man with a very healthy appetite!
I also think that sometimes it's good to let them get used a taste before moving them on to different things, sometimes it may just be too much change for them??
Good luck :)

Ive found it takes Max a few attempts before he likes something- he pulls some very funny faces but after a few days he likes it. ITs just about perservering i think, but easy for me to say as Max hasnt cried for any food yet hes happy to eat anything.

i think just keep trying lots of others flavours, hopefully she'll find a few she likes rather than just apple. apple is very sweet so try other sweet fruits too?

sorry if ive been no help i feel lost with weaning at the moment! xxx

Don't we have to try things 15 separate times or something before we truly like them? I keep trying every now and again with soph and foods that I know she wasn't as fussed about before but it really is so difficult x

Jack was exactly the same! Hated potato and loved apple or pear. I used to freeze his food in ice cube trays and at first gave him 2 cubes of savory and 1 cube of sweet all mixed together so he could still get the sweet taste but also the savory too. After a while I decreased the sweet cube I added until he didn't need it at all x

i think its cos babys milk is pretty sweet tasting so they adapt easily to the sweet things but savory things are so new and alien to them it takes a while for them to adjust to it. i mix new things in with rusk if possible so alyssa will take it happily lol
