Tap Water

For how long are you supposed to boil tap water for drinking water for your baby?

We still boil Luke's for his cups each day and cool it, but the other day at a soft play group, they came round with a load of drinks which was water straight out of the tap and some of the babies around the same age as Luke were drinking it.

Not sure what the official advice is but I still boil and my LO is 9 months.

I posted this question a week or so ago...I still boil Violet's but it seems that others give it from the tap after 6 months so I might just start doing that....it's hard to stop once you get used to it tho!!!

That's the thing... I can't imagine NOT doing it IYKWIM?

I think we may just do it to a year then and stop...

The way I understand it is that from 6 months when baby starts weaning, they stick anything and everything in their mouth, so a few germs are ok, and in fact good for them to build an immunity. You dont have to sterilise bottles and feeding equipment after 6 months, although obviously its personal choice if you want to continue to do it, and so if their drinking/eating implements are washed in tap water then it cant be that bad!? I havent reached that stage with Eden yet, but with Tyler we introduced tap water at 6 months along with food and juice etc. I did still sterilise his bottles though tbh, but more to get rid of all the milk residue than anything else, as they never look completely clean with washing alone! Of course its still personal choice with whatever you give or do for your kids, regardless of the "official" advice you are bombarded with x

The official guideline is that they can have tap water from 6 months, we just started weaning and so I offer him tap water with his food but he isn't really interested at the moment anyway. xx

We only sterilise dummies now.

It's weird though... I only drink bottled water. I have a "thing" about drinking tap water - I just CAN'T do it so I feel weird giving him normal tap water lol

My birth to 5 book says 6 months for drinking but always boil it for formula mixing.

Ive given up sterilising but still boil the tap water before giving to Dafydd.
