I've just been reading up on some sites, one article said about not taking a baby less than six weeks old to malls or supermarkets (or other highly populated places) as germs and infections now could be very dangerous.

What are your opinions, is this true?? I wouldn't have thought twice about taking Lucy to the supermarket!

ok i must be an awfull mum then  cos leland was out about at a week old , and the first week we was in hospital :rotfl: and he got nothing ? he was wrap up warm and i didnt let people touch him etc but i was deffo out and about , id be in hospital a month , the last thing i wanted was to be then shut in a house , and hv never said anything about not going out and leland was a preemie too!

Jack has been out and about loads! I wouldn't worry hun, our parents would have done the same with us, and we're all still here!

We went to our local shopping centre on our way home from hospital and the next day we went to Tescos  the only thing that stopped us from going out more though was the fact i ended up with a section so my stamina was terrible...wouldn't worry about it hun

We were out and about in the town when Calleigh was about a week old

Phew, I did think it might be an overreaction. I went to Mothercare yesterday and have a small family get together to meet her this weekend, it's at my MIL's house and we're only going for a couple of hours, but this did make me think. There's so much I don't know, and you don't know which to believe.

Thanks!

Gah! Rubbish... I think keeping them ultra clean only helps increase their possibilities of getting infections and allergies at a later date... I took lil miss out all the time, and she pretty much chomps on everything and she only got ill just before she was 6 months for the first time :) Kids get ill, it can't be helped... :) But exposing them to different germs and bacteria can actually help get the immune system working...

What Squiglet said, plus having them around pets help build their immune system up too, we were out and about with Ophelia the day we left hospital, and around quite a few children, and who knows what they had on their hands  We were the same with Isaac, and he's never been a sickly child. Very best wishes with the family day too

I was in town when Angel was 3 days old! She's perfectly fine!
