My HV said to wait until after the first set of immunisations at that it was then a personal choice if I wanted to wait until after the third set of immunisations just to be sure.
We haven't taken her yet as I have a big ick thing about swimming pools (it's the communion bathing, I just don't like it). I have meant to fill the bath and get in that with her so she can swim in it but haven't got round to that yet.
You don't need to wait until any jabs as the chlorine in the water kills any dangerous bugs. I was told it's actually safer to take a newborn to a public pool than the park!
A swim nappy replaces a normal nappy as a normal one will just soak up all the pool water, so just pop her in that and she'll be fine. You can get swimming costumes & things to go over the top but you may find it tricky getting one small enough as most shops don't seem to make them under 6 months
The only thing really to remember is that she may get cold quite quickly so you might only get 15/20 minutes in the pool. Also make sure you rinse her off afterwards - I just used to bath Austin as soon as we got home rather than use the showers at the pool as they were too hot & powerful for him.
Also it's worth being aware that most public pools won't let you take photos, although some will be okay if you speak to the manager on the way in or sign a consent form - best to either call in advance or speak to reception when you go in to be sure. I hope you really enjoy your swim
we have taken adam every week since he was 4 weeks old.....would have gone sooner but i needed to wait until my bleeding had stopped!!
he really loves it but we only get to stay in for about 15 mins as he gets cold. he just wears a huggies swim nappy and nothing else, but you can get little wet suits for them that supposedly keep them warmer for longer, but we haven't tried them.
hope you enjoy it!!
ps i took photos of befor and after in the changing room!!
We've been swimming a few times now since being on holiday. Our first time was a couple of months ago and she loved it. We bought her a baby wetsuit (Konfidence baby warma) which has been a godsend as it keeps her lovely and warm and she can spend a good while in the water. Underneath that we just use a reusable swim nappy.
